WINNERS OF THE KOREAN LANGUAGE KNOWLEDGE COMPETITION AS A CONSTANT REPRESENTATIVE OF SCHOLAR OF KOREAN STUDIES

In 2019, the Department of the Far East held an essay contest on the knowledge of the Korean language. The competition was financed by the General Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Almaty. For the first time, all students from the Department of Korean Studies took part in the competition. For the main prize fought both senior and junior courses on equal terms. The total number of students in the Korean department is more than 100, and another 30 students are studying at universities in South Korea as exchange students of academic mobility programs. Kazakh National University has more than 40 cooperation agreements with educational organizations of the Republic of Korea. However, the most active cooperative partners are about 30.

CAN YOU DANCE IN KOREAN STYLE? AN UNUSUAL KOREAN DANCE CONTEST WAS HELD AMONG LEARNERS OF KOREAN STUDIES

The Department of Korean studies is famous not only for scientific achievements. Here among students holding a popular competition of Korean modern dance. Not by chance, almost 90% of all students of the Department of Korean studies came to Department of the Far East due to the popularity of Korean TV shows and music. The judges were teachers from Korea Lee Jung Hye, Choi Ji Young. The students danced with enthusiasm and with desire to imitate Korean actors from TV shows. And many of them have succeeded.

WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT KOREA? TRADITIONAL COMPETITION FOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY OF KOREA WHICH HELD IN AL-FARABI KAZNU

The week of Korean studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University began with the traditional event “What do we know about Korea?”. Each year, senior students prepare questions for a competition among freshmen on Korean history. This year, 47 students were recruited at the Department of the Far East. Such a set of students was not long ago in the Department of Korean studies. Among first-year students, almost all students assimilated the basics of Korean history. Now they will have to specialize at different stages of historical development in the centuries-old history of the Korean Peninsula.

One Asia in the context of cultural contents

Professor Lee Sang-In, as a guest lecturer from Hanyang University in Seoul, contributed to the Couse of Asian Community with the theme “Korean Cultural Wave and Korean Films in Asian Community” on March 15, 2019, which conducts as a regular discipline for the students of Department of Far East Studies under the international program of “One Asia” supported by One Asia Foundation in Tokyo of Japan.

Japanese Speech Contest

The competition, organized by the Embassy of Japan in Kazakhstan, the Association of Japanese Teachers of Kazakhstan, and Al-Farabi KazNU, is a testament to the close diplomatic relations between Japan and Kazakhstan. The Japanese Association in Kazakhstan, Japanese Association of Entrepreneurs in Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan-Japanese Center for Human Development, and the Japan Foundation sponsored this Competition. Tsukuba University, «Terakoya» Public Association, «Sony Electronics» Company, and the Kazakhstan's New & Rare Resources Limited Liability Partnership have greatly supported the event.

The Department of the Far East has been working closely with the Japan Foundation for the Development of International Relations for more than 20 years, promoting the Japanese language and culture throughout the world. The Japanese Foundation was established in 1972 as a special organization under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and since that time it has been the core of cultural exchange, which Japan carries out with the countries of the world community.
