On the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s membership to the

United Nations

Within the framework of IV International Farabi readings, an international Roundtable discussion on “The Role of Kazakhstan in the UN Security Council” will be held on the 7th April 2017 at the International Relations Department of al-Farabi Kazakh national university.

Kazakhstan emphasizes the need to unite efforts and cooperation in strengthening international peace and security with the aim to build a nuclear-weapon-free world by the UN’s 100th anniversary. In the UN Security Council Kazakhstan plans to work on the issues of maintenance of international peace and security, to cooperate with the UN SC all members on the equal basis, to promote a compromise and build a consensus to strengthen stability. In this regard, the priorities of Kazakhstan’s activities as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council have been set out in the address: ensuring humanity’s survival through a world free of nuclear weapons, elimination of the threat of a global war, promotion of peace in Afghanistan and  formation of a regional peace zone in Central Asia, the development of the Astana Code of Conduct of International Anti-Terrorist operations in the framework of forming of Global Anti-Terrorism Coalition (network) under the auspices of the United Nations, promotion of the peaceful and stable development of Africa, achievement of the UN sustainable development goals and the inextricability of the link between peace, security and development, adaptation of the UN to the 21st century demands, etc.

The aim of the event is to analyze the experience of cooperation of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the UN in the fields of security, nuclear non-proliferation, migration, humanitarian issues, as well as other aspects of the UN activities in Kazakhstan.

The main participants of the Roundtable discussion will be the representatives of the MFA of the RK and the diplomatic corps, international organizations, heads of higher educational institutions, etc. Students and teachers of the International Relations Department of al-Farabi KazNU will also participate in the discussions.
