• Getting a new generation of sorbents and composite materials based on natural nanomaterials (head prof. Burkitbayev M.M).

The object of the new direction is a natural nanomaterial - diatomite. The use of diatomite allowed offering the technology cementless isolate radioactive liquid alkali solutions. Investigations were carried out within the ISTC project. The methods of preparation of composite materials.

• Radiological studies of polluted areas with artificial and natural radionuclides (head prof. Burkitbayev M.M.)
In the framework of international projects of the NATO Science for Peace "(SEMIRAD and SEMIRAD-2) to investigate the most actively used in the national economy to the Semipalatinsk test site. In nature, objects and foods by high-resolution alpha-gamma spectrometry, the determination of isotopes of plutonium, americium, strontium, cesium and other studies have shown that the most contaminated sites are the sites of nuclear explosions on the spot where the lake was formed Telkom 1 and Telkem 2. Currently, a group of employees of the Department participate in an international project "Heritage of uranium mining and Safety when the environment in the Central Asian republics - RESCA". Together with a group of foreign scholars department staff involved in scientific expeditions to the former uranium mines: Kurday (Kazakhstan), Min-Kush, Kaji-Say, Shekaftar (Kyrgyzstan), Digmay, Taboshar (Tajikistan). Determined the isotopic composition of natural radioactive elements (U, Th, Ra) in different geological formations in the technogenic zone. In this case, radioactive isotopes are used to indicate the degree of anthropogenic impact on natural features and sources of income.

• Study of physical and chemical properties of natural phosphate (head prof. Kuanysheva G.S.)

Professor G.S. Kuanysheva, associate Professor B.D. Balgysheva, associate Professor N.S. Dalabaeva are working in the field of mechano-chemical processing of magnesium containing low-grade rock phosphate in Kazakhstan on phosphate fertilizers. It solves the problem of science based approach of processing sub-standard phosphate to produce useful products (fertilizer, ion exchange and other properties). A new methodology for determining the selectivity of dissolution of phosphate minerals in inorganic acids, which can be used as the choice of solvents for the processing of phosphate raw materials, as well as at the stage of enrichment. The theoretical patterns to forecast the conditions of synthesis and properties of phosphorus-containing materials in a polymeric form.
