The conference will be held on May 22, 2024 in the “Pearl of the East” - in the city of Baku at the Institute of Manuscripts named after Muhammad Fuzuli of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

 Introduction

One of the ancient national treasures, passed through the mosaic path of various cultures and civilizations over many centuries and reaching our days, is the art of healing of the Turks. Despite the fact that the foundations of this art were formed on the basis of traditions, knowledge, religious beliefs and worldviews of different peoples, its development was not influenced by religion, language or established customs. The mutual cultural exchanges of the peoples along the Silk Road further developed this art. The art of healing, widespread and characterized by several names such as “traditional medicine”, “traditional medicine”, “ethnomedicine” or “complementary medicine”, is a multifaceted field that requires not only the deep knowledge and experience of researchers, but also the active support of mutual exchange knowledge. This ancient art has only recently attracted the attention of scientists and become the object of scientific research. Currently, scientists from different countries are actively studying Turkic medicine with active interest. For mutual discussion of research results and exchange of experience in this direction, a common dialogue platform is extremely important, facilitating the development of future research directions. In the context of the research project AR19675139 “Heritage of Medieval Turkic Medicine in Persian: 'Tansuk-name Ilkhani,' 'Asrar al-atibba'”, an initiative has been launched to establish a platform for dialogue, fostering the exchange of expertise and knowledge among scholars and researchers specializing in Turkic traditional healing, as well as individuals passionate about this subject. This effort is manifested through the organization of an international scientific and practical conference.

The conference will be focused on healing traditions, worldview analysis, features of treatment with medicine and natural products, as well as discussion of issues related to the study of written medical heritage. For publication in the conference collection, materials will be accepted in the form of articles, literary reviews and research reports devoted to the historical, philosophical, philological, anthropological, sociological and scientific aspects of both “classical” and “local” healing traditions of the peoples of the East. The conference will feature an exhibition showcasing valuable manuscripts from the collection of the Institute of Manuscripts named after Muhammad Fizuli at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
