Suicide prevention among young people: Kazakhstan and international experience

On March 28, 2024, a roundtable on «Suicide prevention among young people: Kazakhstan and international experience» was held at the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University as part of the achievements of SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

The roundtable was organized by the Department of International Law: Doctor Ph.D. Baimagambetova Z.M., Doctor Ph.D. Altayeva K.Zh., 1st year master students Ayatullah Nemati, Ibrayeva Adema, Orazbek Bekarys, Toktarbekova Madina, Wang Xi.

The purpose of the event: crime prevention and improvement of legal literacy among young people on suicide issues, analysis of Kazakhstani and international experience.

Invited guests – candidate of psychological sciences, senior lecturer of the Department of General and Applied Psychology of Al-Farabi KazNU - Sadykova N.M., psychologist of the expert group of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the Association of Eurasian Polygraph examiner of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sembay A.A. conducted a training and shared successful practices on suicide prevention among young people.

Baitukayeva D.U. Doctor Ph.D., Coordinator for the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of PSEA (UNICEF) presented the Recommendations of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on suicide prevention in Kazakhstan.

Master students Ayatullah Nemati, Orazbek Bekarys, students Bisenova Moldir, Nurgalimova Amina, Yerzhan Aruzhan made presentations on the international experience of suicide prevention.
