On September 29, 2023, at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, in the Department of Far East, under the leadership of Professor Lee Byong Jo and the advisors of the department (Shatekova G., Sermukhametova B., Sailaukenova A., Begaliyeva M.), the national holiday of the Korean people “Chuseok” was celebrated under the heading “Partnerships for Sustainable Development” SDGs.

This event was attended by 1st-4th year students of the Department of Far East, Department of Korean Studies. The holiday began with a congratulatory speech by the head of the Korean Studies department, Zhakhanova Zh. A., after which 1st year students were given a brief introduction to the holiday. Our students also tried the national dish of the Korean people, songpen and injeolmi, and took pictures in hanbok. We are confident that the holiday will be an unforgettable, wonderful experience for students.

“Chuseok” is a holiday of the Korean people, which is celebrated on August 15 according to the lunar calendar. This holiday, which coincides with the autumn harvest season - a time of abundance and prosperity, has great significance for the Korean people and a deep history that reflects their national culture. We know that the celebration of Chuseok, which has been carried over from century to century and has survived to this day, is an indispensable tool that expands the cognitive horizons of our beginners and increases interest in learning the Korean language!
