International webinar "The Virtuous City of Al-Farabi"

On April 15, 2020 at the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies in the framework of the project "100 books” and on the eve of the 1150th anniversary of al-Farabi was held an international webinar.

The webinar discussed Abu Nasir al-Farabi's book "The views of the people of the Virtuous City”. Yesdaulet Yergeldi, PhD student of the department, introduced to the guests the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi and its current life.

The next speaker was Indonesian researcher Wahyudi Rahman, who gave a talk on "The Virtuous City of Al-Farabi and the Republic of Plato." Wahyudi Rahman compared the two works and pointed out the peculiarities of al-Farabi's work. First of all, al-Farabi said that the existence of the concept of "prophet" in a good city and the description of the structure of society in a special way. The webinar was continued by Su San Miya, PhD student at the Islamic University of Malaysia. She noted that al-Farabi's work was closely related to the topic of his dissertation research, "pluralism," and that the above information was valuable for her dissertation.

The webinar was also attended by Professor of the Department, Doctor of Philosophy Borbasova Karlygash, students of religion studies, foreign guests Ahmad Numan from Singapore, Abdul Basit from Indonesia, who shared their questions and ideas.
