The annual ‘GIS in Central Asia’ Conference - GISCA 2018 has issued the Call for Papers and has opened regis-tration for the conference scheduled for June 14-17 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The main objectives of this English language conference are to bring together GIS academics, researchers and practitioners from Central Asian and other countries and to encourage international cooperation and knowledge exchange in GIS education.

In 2018, GISCA is focused on the theme of "Geoinformatics for Regional Development". Geographic Information Science as a conceptual foundation, Geoinformatics as the methodology and GIS as software technology are pow-erful instruments for linking information across different sources by location. This is exactly what is needed to suc-cessfully manage our environments and natural resources, our economies and ultimately our societies.

On 9-10 April 2018, at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will be held the VII International Student Forum “Green Bridge Through Generations”, dedicated to promoting the values and principles of Sustainable Development and the “Green” Economy for future generations, discussing opportunities and options for a large-scale dissemination of the basic ideas of Sustainable Development on the Eurasian territory.

The main goal of the Forum is to create an interactive platform for students and young scientists to discuss current trends in promoting “green” initiatives and preserving the environment, introducing alternative energy sources for Kazakhstan’s industrial development, mechanisms for introducing innovative developments presented at EXPO-2017 (Astana).

At the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences  of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan on March 28-29, 2018, the Republican Student Olympiad on specialty "5В060900-Geography" was held. Organizers of this Olympiad are teachers of the Department of Geography, Land Ue Planninf and Cadastre

Faculty of Geography and Nature Management KazNU. Al-Farabi together with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan on March 28-29, 2018 holds the Republican student subject Olympiad in the specialties "5В060900-Geography", "5В060800-Ecology" and "5В071100-Geodesy and Cartography" (AFS).

In the period from March 30 to April 2, 2018, the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism together with the club "Zhas Tour" organizes a trip to South Kazakhstan

March 6, 2018 in the Scientific Library of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will be held the I International scientific and practical seminar «The role of geodesy in the implementation of the state program «Digital Kazakhstan»» was held with the participation of representatives of various scientific organizations, higher educational institutions, such as the GIS-Technologies Center of Saken Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University, "Zerde" National Infocommunication Holding" JSC (Astana), «Geostroyizıskaniya» LLC, RSE "State Institute of Agricultural Aerial and Photogeodetic Surveys (GISHAGI)", Center for Earth Remote Sensing of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and foreign partner-developers and manufacturer of navigation systems of the company Shanghai HuaCe Navigation and others.

On February 24, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the fifth annual city olymiad on tourism in the city of Almaty.
