At the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences  of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan on March 28-29, 2018, the Republican Student Olympiad on specialty "5В060900-Geography" was held. Organizers of this Olympiad are teachers of the Department of Geography, Land Ue Planninf and Cadastre

The purpose of the Olympiad: the disclosure of creative abilities, selection and support of the most talented and gifted students on geographical knowledge; assistance in building the intellectual potential of students; involving students and young scientists in solving scientific geographic problems; development of interest in scientific activities in the field of geography.
11 teams were announced for the competition of the Republican student subject Olympiad in 2018 on the specialty "5В060900 Geography", 10 teams from different universities of Kazakhstan took part in the Olympiad.
The subject Olympiad consisted of 3 rounds.
The first round - the presentation of the team, the second round - test and practical tasks, the third round - the protection of scientific projects on the topic: "The new economic belt of the Silk Road: opportunities and risks."
When summing up the results of the final stage, the commission of the subject Olympiad identified winners, both in personal and in team competition. The commission consisted of: the chairman of the commission - Doctor of Geological Sciences, prof. Nyusupova G.N, Doctor of Economics, prof. Nadyrov Sh.M., Ph.D., Assoc. Veselova L.K, Doctor of Economics, prof. Askarova M.A, Ph.D., prof. KazNU Temirbekov A.T, senior lecturer Kenespaeva L.B
Having considered the results of 3 rounds, as a presentation, test and practical assignments, the independent commission of the students awarded the independent work of the students in the team standings to the teams:

1 place - Geozhol, KazNU. al-Farabi;
2 place - "Geostar", PSU them. S.Toraigyrova; "Terra", ENU them. L.N. Gumilyov;
3 place - "Altyn kopir", KazNPU them. Abay; "Ak-Zhayyk", WKSU named after M.Utemisov; "Zhasyl energetika", KazGosZhenPU.
When conducting an individual competition of teams for individual specialties in a personal competition:

1 place - Zharmagambetova Aya, KazNU. Al-Farabi.
2 nd place - Zatel Khymbatai, PSU im. S.Toraigyrova; Akimzhan Zarina, ENU them. L.N. Gumilyov;
3 rd place - Salamatova Zhazira, WKSU named after M. Utemisov; Yerlan Darina, KazNPU them. Abay; Tolekov Zangar, KazNU it. Al-Farabi.
