Field practical lesson in the discipline “Winter regime of rivers” and “Hazardous hydrological phenomena”

On February 22, 2024, as part of the implementation of SDGs 13, 15, 1st year undergraduates and 3rd year students of the educational programs “7M05206-Hydrology” and “6B05203-Hydrology” in the last days of winter attended an on-site practical lesson in the disciplines “Winter regime of rivers” and “Dangerous hydrological phenomena" with the aim of observing ice phenomena at the hydrological post below the mouth of the Sarysay River, a tributary of the Kishi Almaty River, located in the Medeu tract. The on-site practical lesson was organized by D. D. Arystanambekova, PhD, senior lecturer at the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology. During the on-site lesson, interesting information about the observed ice phenomena on rivers and their types, as well as the impact of climate change on the ice regime was discussed with students. In addition, information was given about dangerous hydrological phenomena observed on rivers in winter, the causes and consequences of their formation.
