The PhD student of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology at Al-Farabi KazNU, Laura Ryssaliyevа was one of the 30 participants out of a total of 140, took part in the International Summer School organized by the National Research University "TIIAME" from August 21st to August 25th 2023, in collaboration with leading international scientific organizations: "NEXUS GIANS," "ICARDA," "IFPR," "ZALF," "IWMI," and "Alliance Bioversity&CIAT."

The theme of the school was "Assessing the Sustainability of the Water-Energy-Food-Environment Nexus Central Asia." Participation in this summer school played a key role in the PhD student's dissertation preparation.

The experience and knowledge gained at the school were highly valuable, but one of the most important aspects was the opportunity to exchange experiences with experts and participants from different countries. This contributed to the collaboration efforts aimed at achieving a common goal - addressing current issues related to water resources and agriculture. Thanks to the professors' training and intensive discussions during group work on the case study, participants applied their knowledge to develop scenarios for improving soil health. As a result, Laura, in collaboration with members of the young scientific team from Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, prepared an article titled "Management practices for improving soil health in the Aral Sea Basin: a case study from Karakalpakstan" for publication in a scientific journal.
