Eco Cleaning day «Rivers Clean Up»

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology successfully organized the environmental event “Rivers Clean Up” in the Kaskelen River Basin on September 23, 2023. Teachers, doctoral and master students of the department actively took part in the event. The purpose of this environmental event was to emphasize efforts to preserve and protect ecosystems in the mountainous areas of the Ile Alatau. Participants in this initiative collected more than 30 bags of garbage near the river in 1 hour of work, clearing the Kaskelen River basin of harmful waste. Environmental scientists from the Ile-Alatau National Park held events and master classes for participants on proper waste sorting, promoting an ecological lifestyle. In addition, they organized an exciting excursion to the forest plant nursery for the cleanup participants, allowing them to better understand the richness of the local nature.

Committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology strives to conduct environmental activities annually, focusing on the themes of SDG 6 “Clean Water and Sanitation”, SDG 15 “Conservation of Terrestrial Ecosystems”. Thus, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology calls on everyone who opposes the consumerist attitude towards nature to unite, to pay attention to issues of water resources and environmental protection. It is not nature that needs our protection, it is we who need its protection: clean air to breathe, crystal water to drink, all of nature to live.
