International webinar in conjunction with the Center for Alternative Perspectives and Global Concernes (Canada) Creative Dialogues on the topic «Splendour (Hod)»

On October 17, 2022, the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science held an international webinar in conjunction with the Center for Alternative Perspectives and Global Concernes on the topic “Splendour (Hod)”. The speakers of the webinars were: Professor of Mandeville Academy Rico Sneller and Amira Fayyad (Egypt).

A series of intensive dialogues between two thinkers coming from a different background on a predetermined, ‘metapolitical’ subject. The global dialogues will be held online monthly via Zoom. Goals of Creative Dialogues are creating a secure space, free from assumptions, where personal ideas can be shared and exploring possibilities to find creative solutions for global challenges. Thematical framework: ‘metapolitics’ Alluding to ‘meta-physics,’ Joseph de Maistre (1753-1821) introduced the term ‘meta-politics’. It was meant to designate those dimensions adhering to the political while simultaneously transcending it: freedom, friendship, love, art, spirituality, etc. One can say that metapolitical reflection attempts to re-contextualise politics. Outline From ancient times until today, many different approaches to the art of dialogue have been developed. The main goal in all these approaches has always been to speak together with a supporting, ‘ethical’ attitude. ‘Ethical,’ in this perspective, entails a respect for diversity in giving words to a common subject with the purpose of meeting the other. Our Dialogues project starts from the intention to open a large spectrum of possibilities to consider the subject at hand. It explicitly acknowledges that we need to envisage a variety of perspectives on global concerns. In addition, it acknowledges that thinking is a process, comparable to the act of giving birth. Speaking, then, becomes an art of creative cooperation that opens new perspectives. Consequently, we will together embrace a better position than before.
