Al-Farabi Kazakh National University – The Most Sustainable University among Kazakhstani HEI according to the UI GREEN METRIC RANKING 2018

On December 19, 2018 was announced the results of ninth UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2018, the only university rankings in the world that measure each participating university’s commitment in developing an ‘environmentally friendly’ infrastructure.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University according to the results of this rating has established a leading position among Kazakhstani universities and ranked 172 place!

This result was achieved through the activities of the university in promoting the idea of sustainable development and the implementation of a number of activities based on the “Model Plan for Sustainable Development of Universities”, which was presented at the III Asian University Forum.

The ranking took into account the indicators of universities in 6 categories:

  • setting and infrastructure
  • energy and climate change
  • waste
  • water
  • transportation and education

This year 719 universities from 81 countries took part in the ranking of "green universities", which shows the interest of universities in becoming one of the best universities in terms of "sustainability". It is an increased from last year with 619 universities from 76 countries. The universities from countries, such as Belgium, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Croatia, Malta has joined the list of “green universities”.
