On November 3, 2023, 2nd year students of the “International Relations” educational program Serikhan Amir, Tzaferi Vassili and Amanbaeva Adelina, together with their adviser, senior instructor Utegenova A.R. participated in an inter-university event - a discussion on Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education. The event was organized by Almaty Management University together with the International Relations and World Economy Chair of the Department of IR of Al-Farabi KazNU, KazNMU named after. S.D. Asfendiyarov and UIB.

Prior to the discussion, students have completed surveys about the use of AI in their study groups. It turned out that from 60 to 80% of students use ChatGPT and other AI tools for most major assignments. Even students realize that sometimes AI gives incorrect information, they continue to use AI tools since they believe it reduce their time for completing the assignments in time. It is obvious that use of ChatGPT in education raises significant ethical concerns. There have been various opinions on the use of AI at the event. Some participants advocated banning the use of AI based tools such as ChatGPT in higher education, while others called for recognizing the fact that it is impossible to ban its use. During the discussion, it became clear that both teachers and students lack knowledge about the specifics of how AI tools work. Overall, the discussion contributed to a better understanding of the capabilities of AI in the educational process.
