1) 09/27/2022. International roundtable dedicated to the International Day of Peace.

During the roundtable, students presented their reports and presentations on the importance and necessity of this event. The moderator of the roundtable was Leila Delovarova, Director of the Academic Regional Resource and Information Center about the UN at the Faculty of International Relations of the Al-Farabi KazNU. Dean of the Faculty of International Relations Duman Zhekenov, as well as the representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Kazakhstan Vlastimil Samek presented certificates to the participants.

 

2) 21.10.2022. Roundtable dedicated to the UN Day and the Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Students from different faculties of the KazNU, as well as foreign students, took part in the roundtable and shared their views on the agenda. Participants presented their mini-projects in the form of presentations, videos and posters. The event was organized by Vlastimil Samek, representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Kazakhstan. The moderator of the event was Delovarova Leila Fedorovna. The event was also organized by the coordinators of the UN Center - Alen Zhuanyshbekov and Simbat Yesimgalieva, as well as activists and volunteers.

3) 11/22/2022. International conference: "Problems of gender equality in different regions of the world: key problems and approaches to solving" within the framework of the international campaign "16 days of activism against gender-based violence".

Students made presentations on gender equality issues in different regions of the world, and took part in a discussion initiated by the invited guest Olesya Zhuravleva, responsible for communications in the Regional Spotlight Initiative for Central Asia and Afghanistan, UN RCO. The conference was held in a friendly atmosphere, where all participants took the opportunity to talk about current problems and methods of addressing the problem of serious gender inequality in different regions. All participants were awarded certificates.

4) 02.12.2022. Roundtable dedicated to the International Anti-Corruption Day and World AIDS Day.

The roundtable participants prepared presentations and presented them in several languages. They defended their positions and contributed to a common understanding of the fight against corruption in Kazakhstan and at the international level. Others have produced infographics about the victims of AIDS and how modern medicine and our contributions are helping to prevent this disease, and why we should not distance ourselves from people who need help.

 

5) 08.12.2022. Roundtable dedicated to World Human Rights Day.

Students made presentations on issues of gender equality, the following topics were presented: "The contribution of the UN to the protection of human rights in Afghanistan", "Cooperation between UNICEF and Kazakhstan on children's rights", "The main international documents on human rights under the UN and the participation of Kazakhstan" and others. During the roundtable, the participants of the event shared their personal experience, topical issues and methods for solving this issue were discussed. At the end of the event, certificates for participation were awarded.

6) 01/27/2023. Discussion Table dedicated to the International Day of Education.

Students made presentations on various topical issues of education in various regions of the world and took part in further discussion at the Discussion Table. The conference was held in a friendly atmosphere, where all participants took the opportunity to talk about topical issues and methods for solving problems related to access to education, inclusive education. At the end, nomination letters were awarded to the 2 best speakers, the best debater, and certificates for participation. All participants showed their great motivation and offered their own solution to the current problems in the field of education.

7) 02/10/2023. International panel discussion dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

The international panel discussion was devoted to SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) - 4.5, 9.10 and 17. The international roundtable was held with the participation of the faculty leadership, representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Almaty Vlastimil Samek and communications coordinator of the Regional Spotlight Initiative program for Central Asia and Afghanistan. Within the framework of the roundtable, 2 reports were presented on topical issues affecting gender inequality and the role of women in science in Kazakhstan and the world. The event was held in a friendly atmosphere, where all participants took the opportunity to talk about current problems and achievements of women in science. An interesting discussion took place between the participants and invited guests. As a result of the event, electronic certificates for participation and certificates in the nominations “Best Report” and “Best Discussion Participant” were sent out.

8) 02/16/2022. Roundtable: "30 years of the UN in Kazakhstan: Vision through the eyes of youth", in honor of the opening day of the First UN Office in Kazakhstan.

On February 16, the UN Office in Almaty hosted a roundtable "30 years of the UN in Kazakhstan: Vision through the eyes of youth", in honor of the opening day of the First UN Office in Kazakhstan. As guests of honor, the event was attended by Ms. Mikaela Friberg-Story, UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan; Ms. Akmaral Arystanbekova, Ambassador-at-Large, First Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor; Mr. Islambek Raimov, Deputy Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan in Almaty; Mr. Justin Rashid, UN Security Adviser in Kazakhstan.

The team of the UN Academic Regional Resource and Information Center in Almaty, the team of the UN Model and 20 graduate students of the International Relations Department of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University showed their projects on the Sustainable Development Goals and the future vision of Kazakhstan's activities in the UN.

In turn, Mr. Vlastimil Samek, analyzing all the speeches of the participants, noted the importance and peculiarity of the SDGs, as well as the implementation process in Kazakhstan. The roundtable was held in a friendly atmosphere, where all participants and guests took the opportunity to discuss topical issues and methods for solving problems to achieve the SDGs, as well as share the main points of the history of cooperation between the United Nations and the Republic of Kazakhstan.

9) 27 - 28.02.2022. International Olympiad "What do you know about the activities of the UN?".

On Monday, February 27, the first round of the International Olympiad "What do you know about the activities of the UN?" was held at the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The first round was held in the form of a quiz with questions directly related to the activities of the UN.

The Olympiad was attended by students from various universities in Almaty, including Turan University, Narxoz University. The total number of participants was 32 people.

The moderators of the first round of the International Olympiad were Vlastimil Samek, Representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Almaty and Delovarova Leшla Fedorovna, Director of the Academic Regional Resource and Information Center about the UN at the Faculty of International Relations of the Al-Farabi KazNU. Zhekenov Duman Kurmangazievich, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, PhD, Associate Professor, Vlastimil Samek, Representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Almaty, Olesya Zhuravleva, Communications Coordinator of the Regional Spotlight Initiative program for Central Asia and Afghanistan, RCO UNO, Tair Taurbaev, Operator of the UN Security Operations Center, Representatives of the International Organization for Migration in Almaty (MOM) attended the event as guests of honor.

According to the results of the first round, Manshuk Moyatdinova, (Narxoz, IL 3rd place), Sanzhar Zakirov (KazNU, IR, 3rd place), Kurei Nurlykhanuly (3rd place, Turan University), Keldibay Aruzhan (Narxoz, IR, 2nd place), Maratzhan Maratov (Biotechnology, 2nd place), Ayymgul Ersainova (KazNU, 1st place).

10) 02.03.2023. International Conference dedicated to the day of the entry of the Republic of Kazakhstan into the UN.

On March 2, 2023, the International Conference dedicated to the day of the entry of the Republic of Kazakhstan into the UN was held at UN Plaza. The conference was attended by students from various universities in Almaty, including Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Narxoz University, Turan University, KazUMOiMIA University, KazGiu and UIB Universities. Not only bachelor students, but also master students and school students had the opportunity to take part in this conference. The total number of participants exceeded 100 people.

The event was attended as guests of honor by Vlastimil Samek, Arystanbekova Akmaral Khaydarovna, the first Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN, ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ambassador-at-Large, Doctor of History, Professor, Mr. B.E. Bulegenov Head Representations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty, Mr. Boztaev Nurlan, Mr. Tegisbaev Nurlan representatives of the Fund "Polygon-29 August". Students and schoolchildren also made a speech, making a significant contribution to the development of international relations.

During the conference, students and schoolchildren had the opportunity to ask their questions to Ms. Akmaral Haydarovna Arystanbekova, the first Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN, ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ambassador-at-Large, Doctor of History, Professor.

The International Conference, dedicated to the day of the accession of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the membership of the United Nations, was held in a friendly atmosphere, where all participants, in addition to participating in the International Conference, took the opportunity to talk about the current activities of the UN and discuss historical cases and important moments in the activities of the Organization.

 

11) As part of the implementation of SDG targets (Goal 4: Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all) on September 20, 2023 at the Faculty of International Relations of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University was held a book exhibition entitled “International Relations and World Literature.” During this event book products from the «Steppe & World Publishing» publishing house were put on display for readers. At the end of the exhibition, the director and editor-in-chief of the said publishing house, Raisa Kadyr and Nazgul Kozhabek, who were invited as special guests, held a meeting with the leadership and students of the Faculty of International Relations. During the conversation, representatives of «Steppe & World Publishing» spoke about the situation in the field of book publishing in Kazakhstan, and also answered all questions of interest to the audience.

In general, this event pursued the goal of popularizing the culture of reading among the younger generation of Kazakhstanis. In this regard, the books exhibited at the exhibition were sold with a special discount of 20%. Following the results of the exhibition, the participants expressed a wish for continued cooperation between the faculty and the publishing house «Steppe & World Publishing».

It is important to note that this event aroused great public interest, including outside Kazakhstan. Thus, five different Turkish media published materials about the last exhibition under the authorship of al-Farabi KazNU professor Safura Boribaeva.

12) An international round table dedicated to the International Day of Peace was held at the Faculty of International Relations!

On September 21, 2023, the Academic Regional Resource Information Center about the UN at the IRD, with the support of the representative office of the UN Department of Global Communications in Almaty, organized an international round table dedicated to the International Day of Peace.

The round table was opened by the director of the center, Leila Delovarova, and the head of the representative office of the UN Department of Global Communications in Almaty, Vlastimil Samek. Vlastimil Samek noted the role of youth in promoting peace and the SDGs, as well as the role of international relations students in promoting important ideas and initiatives.

As part of the round table, videos, presentations, drawings, and speeches were presented on global problems of international relations, which are a serious obstacle to peace. Students and young scientists also noted the role of the younger generation in maintaining peace and implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. During the event, participants covered SDGs 1,2,3,4, 5,16 and 17.

Roundtable participants agree that the SDGs bring everyone closer to building a peaceful, just, and free society.

The event was sponsored by the volunteer youth movement “Adal Urpaq”, which provided memorable prizes to active participants.

At the end of the event, partners, the leadership of the faculty and the center discussed further plans to promote sustainable development and implementation of the 17 SDGs.
