The Department  Epidemiology of Biostatistics and Evidence-Based Medicine was established in December 2015, by the decision of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University Academic Council.

The first head of the department was Reznik Vitaliy Lazarevich, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor. Currently, the Department is headed by Mamyrbekova Saltanat, PhD.

The department was established to provide training for undergraduates and doctoral students on the specialty "Public Health".

The mission of the department is to develop the human resources - specialists corresponding to modern intellectual requirements and development strategy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, possessing a high level of professional culture, having active citizenship, being able to formulate and solve modern scientific and practical problems, and successfully carry out research and management activities.

The goal of the department is to prepare master's students in the field of public health in accordance with high academic standards; to provide students with fundamental knowledge at the interface between different sciences and in the field of pedagogy and psychology, guaranteeing them professional mobility in a real developing world; to develop skills in organizing and conducting scientific research in doctoral studies.

The main activities of the department are educational, research, consulting and expert areas in the field of biomedical statistics and statistical processing of scientific research data, information technology, health information systems, evidence-based medicine, methodology of systematic reviews, protocols and recommendations, health technology assessment , scientific research methodology, scientific research management, management decision making methods in health care, teaching methods in adult education.

The educational program of the scientific-pedagogical and profile magistracy in the specialty "6M110200 - Public Health" was accredited by the international agency ASIIN.
