On April 19, 2021, an online round table on the topic "The negative impact of COVID-19 on the economy of Kazakhstan is the largest in the last decade" was held with the 2nd year students of the specialty "World Economy" of the Faculty of International Relations of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi.

The round table began with a report by the group adviser A. Smagulova, followed by a report by Yerbolova Gulzhanat in Kazakh and a presentation in Kazakh, English and Russian languages on the topic "The negative impact of COVID-19 on the economy of Kazakhstan is the largest in the last decade" Nurgazy Symbat shared a lot of information in english. Then Zhumabayeva Diana made a information in Russian. The round table, as usual, was held in three languages.

During the round table, the students of the group diversified their views. They shared their thoughts on the impact of the pandemic and the future. 

“Translation is the vivid art between linguistics and literary study ” 

On the 1st October 2020 associate professor of the International Relations faculty Diplomatic Translations chair, candidate of the philological sciences Bakytov Aitkali and senior lecturer Zhanuzakova Gulmira held an online educative session named “Translation is the vivid art between linguistics and literary study ” with the second year students of the specialty “International relations” and “International law”.The purpose of the session is to present the most interesting ways of translating, the peculiarities of  the literary translation and taking into account national and cultural peculiarities and also understanding the importance of the linguo-cultural competence while translating. During the educative session students expressed their opinions on the given topic and tutor of the Diplomatic Translations chair Bakytov Aitkali have told about different techniques used in translations and shared his experience with participants.

 

"Shokan Ualikhanov - the bright star of the East"    

On November 13, 2020, an online round table was held with 2nd year students of the specialty "World Economy" of the Faculty of International Relations of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi on the topic "Shokan Ualikhanov - the bright star of the East".

     The round table began with a report by the group's adviser, A.S. Smagulova, and continued with a presentation prepared by Zhumagalieva Laula about Chokan Chingizovich Valikhanov in Kazakh. Further, in Russian, Darina Berdenova shared many details. The round table, as always, was held in three languages. In English, Diana Zhumabayeva made a report in which she reflected the work and life of Shokan. During the online roundtable, it was told about the heroic merits of the Kazakh society, which left an indelible mark on the short life of Shokan.

     Shokan became an orientalist thanks to his family upbringing, kinship with oriental languages ​​and culture; as well as knowledge of Asian history and geography, several oriental languages ​​in the cadet corps, contacts with famous orientalists; and, finally, a series of important travels helped him to become a real orientalist.

 Akhmet Baitursynov is a great Kazakh leader, translator and poet. 

On November 6, 2020, an online round table dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Akhmet Baitursynov was held with 2nd year students of the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, majoring in World Economy.

       The round table began with a report by the group's advisor A.S. Smagulova and continued with a presentation in Kazakh by Zhumagaliyeva Laula about Akhmet Baitursynov. Then Berdenova Darina shared a lot of information in Russian. The round table, as usual, was held in three languages. In English, Kabulov Adilet gave an overview of the work and life of Akhmet Baitursynov.

       Akhmet Baitursynov is a great Kazakh leader, translator and poet. Of course, it is not for nothing that M. Auezov called Akhmet Baitursynov a "spiritual leader" of the Kazakhs. The life and creative activity of Akhmet Baitursynov, a spiritual teacher who was sympathetic to the spiritual life of the people and always united with the country, was full of goodness. He is also an executive and an educator. He is a spiritual leader who lived not for himself, but for the people, because Akhmet Baitursynov is a good citizen who sacrificed his life for the people. He is a public figure who is involved in many aspects of the life of his people and puts his views in an open environment. Akhmet Baitursynov's thoughts, words and deeds have always been united. He is also a good teacher. Akhmet Baitursynov's life and work, his spiritual heritage are an invaluable example for future generations.

 

"Technology of distance learning"

On September 29, 2020, an online explanatory seminar was held on the topic "Technology of distance learning" with 2nd year students of the Faculty of International Relations of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, specializing in "World Economy". The explanatory work was carried out by the head of the group, A.S. Smagulova. During the seminar, the documents approved by the administration of the Kazakh National University, their meaning, as well as the disciplinary rules between student and teacher were clearly stated and explained. During the seminar, students shared their thoughts and received a lot of information about distance learning

"Al-Farabi is a spiritual teacher of the great steppe."

On October 23 of this year, al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted an online round table with students of the group "World Economy" of the Faculty of International Relations on the platform ZOOM "al-Farabi is a spiritual teacher of the great steppe." The event began with a report on al-Farabi by the group's student advisor A.S. Smagulova. The next speech of the Round Table was made by the student of the group Zhumagalieva Laula "al-Farabi-the genius of the universe! During the speech, our ancestor al-Farabi was described and analyzed in detail. Next, it was reflected in the essays and reflections of Kabdulov Adilet and Sadykov Zholaman in Russian. The event continued with presentations in English by Amanbai Muslima and Zhumabayeva Diana on the life and work of al-Farabi.

       In general, the spirit of the day was remembered by the person Al-Farabi, his example and way of life. In conclusion, the students of the group expressed their satisfaction with the fact that they are studying at the university named after such a person and expressed confidence that they will continue to follow in the footsteps of Al-Farabi.

       Al-Farabi is an individual who understands the secrets of the world, contributes to every field of science, a great thinker, a genius! Every citizen who claims to be my country should never forget the great man, take the food necessary for his life and always be proud of him!

 

Language is the breath of life

On october 2, 2020, al-Farabi Kazakh National University, in a faculty of International Relations hosted an open online debates with 2nd-cource students on specialties “World economy” on the topic: “Language is the breath of life”. During the holiday, students greeted in the different foreign languages. This debates became a day of joy and expansion of a common worldview: students read poems in the different languages and shared interesting facts. At the end of the online debates student was read a monologue in our native Kazakh language. The online round table was held through the Zoom application, organized by Aigerim Smagulova.

 

 

 

Goethe "He who does not know another language knows nothing of his own"

 
On October 8, 2020, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Diplomatic Translation, Faculty of International Relations, G.K. Zhantileuova spent an educational hour with 2-year students of the specialty of International Relations online. The educational hour was dedicated to the Day of Languages ​​in Kazakhstan on a theme based on the quotation of the great German poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe "Who does not know another language, knows nothing about his own." The purpose of the educational hour: to be able to talk in German, about German-language countries, about famous German people, reading proverbs, sayings, poems and singing. The educational hour was spent in German. The preface of the educational hour was started by the senior teacher himself and continued by the student of the group, Aigerim Kusainova. As part of the educational hour, students tried to show their knowledge of the German language, as much as possible freely expressed their opinions. They were active, answering questions asked on the topic. The educational hour was very busy. At the end of the educational hour, feedback was conducted using the "Head-hand-heart" method. Lecturer of the Department of Diplomatic translation Kessler Torsten on his opinion about the distance learning

DAAD lecturer, teacher of the German language at the department of Diplomatic translations of the International relations faculty at KazNU named after Al-Farabi, Torsten Kessler shares his experience on teaching the German language to local students and comments advantages of the university in the model of remote teaching and distance learning.

 

Online discussionon on the topic “Easter in Germany”

9 th of April at 14.00 senior lecturer of the Department of Diplomatic translation at the Faculty of International relations Zhantileuova G.K. conducted online discussion on the topic “Easter in Germany” for the 1st year students of the specialty International relations. The aim of online discussion was an improvement of ethnic background, respect for traditions of Easter, cultural attributes and Easter games which are quite popular during the holiday.

Online discussion was held in three languages: Kazakh, Russian and German. Students shared their thoughts and knowledge about customs and traditions according to the information in presentation materials showcased during the discussion.

Students expressed their interest on the topic, asked and interviewed some relevant questions. Discussion was informative and brought positive thoughts. At the end of the session students gave their feedbacks using the method  “Emoji - three faces”.

175 anniversary of our great poet Abay Qunanbaiuly

This year we have been celebrating 175 anniversary of our great poet and composer Abay Qunanbaiuly. 2 year students under the guidance of the Senior lecturer of the Chair of Diplomatic translation Karypbaeva G.A. prepared and read Abay's poems in English and Kazakh.

Online discussion on the topic «The combination of modern requirements and traditions in the process of becoming a person»

On 6th of April 2020 at 12.00 online discussion on the topic «The combination of modern requirements and traditions in the process of becoming a person» was held by the lecturer of the Department of Diplomatic translation  Zhumaliyeva Zh.K . 1 year students of the specialty International Law took part in this discussion. Online event was aimed at identifying effects of controversies of traditional upbringing and modern life style on self-identity formation of the individual. Students were active in sharing their views and personal experiences. They highlighted importance of understanding and respecting traditional values in self-development.

On 27th of February 2020 on the initiative of the Head of the Department of Diplomatic Translation Professor Seidikenova A. S., at the Faculty of International Relations of al-Farabi Kazakh National University there opened the international center for " Intercultural communication and Translation studies»

The purpose of the international center is:

- organization of joint research projects and writing articles, conducting training seminars and courses for professional development; master classes, summer schools;

- translation and interpretation services (translation of various texts from English, French, German and Spanish);

- consultation on international educational programs and international grants, organization of summer schools;

- providing educational services for studying English, French, German, Chinese and Spanish.

Theatre is a place of spiritual self-perfecting

On February 27, 2020 the senior lecturer of the Department of Diplomatic Translation of the Faculty of International Relations G. Zhantileuova and the lecturerZh. Zhumalieva took first-year students to the play "Бес бойдаққа бір той" at the Kazakh State Academic Drama Theater named after M. Auezov. The purpose of students visiting the theater: formation of students' knowledge of the theater and introduction with its features. Among the 1st year students were foreign students from Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan. Performance grabbed attention of viewers from the entrance and had great emotional impact on students.

Report on stand-by duty at dormitory №14 from Lecturer of International relations faculty, department of diplomatic translations, Zhantileuova G.K.

According to the duty schedule of International relations faculty, department of diplomatic tranlsations of KazNU named after Al-Farabi, on February 26, 2020 from 19.00 to 22.00, I was on duty at the dormitory №14.

During my duty time, I went upstairs to each floor of the dormitory, checked the cleanliness of the dining room, and observed the order in the corridor.

 At 8 p.m I read a report on the theme: «Үздікпен үзеңгілес» in the assembly hall. The educational purpose of the report was to introduce the best graduates of Al-Farabi KazNU and famous people of the University with students. Students of the Faculty of International Relations and the Faculty of Oriental Studies attended the conference.

There were some discussions about famous graduators of KazNU as Olzhas Suleimenov, Nurlan Orazalin, Rakhman Alshanov, Abdrasul Zharmenov, Armanzhan Baitasov, Asylbek Kozhakhmetov and Nurlan Smagulov. Balandin, V.A. Zyabkina, S. Altynbekova.

Students took an active part, shared their ideas and asked questions from interested parties. The meeting had a high educational value.

Educational activity on the theme «No drugs and violence!»

On February 23, 2020 the lecturer of the Department of Diplomatic translation Ualikhanuly A. conducted an educational activity on the theme «No drugs and violence! ».

The purpose of the event was:

1. to xplain the danger of drugs;

2. to promote the need for a healthy lifestyle;

3. teach how to resist the pressure of the group (don't do what you don't want to do);

4. explain the causes and consequences of drug use;

1, 2, 3 year students took part in this event. During the event, the lecturer Ualikhanuly A. together with other teachers made reports, showed videos about the harm of narcotic substances. Students actively participated in this event and everyone was satisfied with the event.

Master's degree student from the University of Poitiers in the framework of Erasmus Student Exchange Program

Raphael Fayzon is an exchange master's degree student from the University of Poitiers in the framework of the Erasmus + Mobility enseignant program under a cooperation agreement between the University of Poitiers (France) and the Faculty of International Relations (KazNU). Raphael is the 1st year student of master's degree of the specialty «Translation business in the field of international and legal relations». At the faculty he studies several foreign languages such as Russian, German, and Spanish.

According to him, he was attracted in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University by its educational programs that meet international standards, the opportunity to study in English and a unique University campus which consists of the modern library, Student service center, Sports complex and comfortable dormitories and etc.

Professor of KazNU met with Swiss President Ueli Maurer 

Professor Seidikenova Almash, Head of the Department of Diplomatic Translation, Faculty of International Relations, took part in the meeting dedicated to the special invitation of the Swiss Ambassador of Kazakhstan Urs Schmid in honor of the arrival of the Swiss President Ueli Maurer. Professor Almash Seidikenova studied postgraduate study at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland in 2012-2014 and is the recipient of the two-time Talent Scholarship of the Swiss Confederation. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Swiss companies and graduates of the Swiss University. She attended the meeting as a graduate of the Swiss University and held talks on further education ties. In turn, Ambassador Urs Schmidt thanked for the work being done to establish contacts between the two countries. He has always said that he would always support the embassy.

Currently, the Department of Diplomatic Translation closely cooperates with two Swiss universities (Fribourg and Geneva). There is a joint project with Geneva University. Professors of the Geneva University lecture for undergraduate students. In February, he plans to hold a joint international scientific seminar with the University of Geneva, and publish joint scientific papers. We are confident that the cultural and scientific ties between Switzerland and Kazakhstan will strengthen.

Professor of KazNU as one of the main speakers at international seminar in Brazil.

By the special invitation of Brazilian Association for Universities, Professor Seydikenova Almash Smailkyzy, candidate of Philological Science and Head of Diplomatic translation Department at the faculty of International Relations delivered a speech on the topic “Effect of industrialization on the internationalization of Higher Education” for international seminar entitled as “Industry 4.0 and Sustainable development” hosted by University of Amazon. Her speech was based on KazNU model and delivered in front of heads and experts of 167 member universities from 30 countries as UK, USA, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Italy, Hungary, Algeria and etc. Professor Seydikenova’s presentation showcased successful projects and University 4.0, Smart University, Smart campus programmes developed and implemented in the framework of international cooperation with foreign universities and companies. Professor’s report supported by video clip about KazNU made a positive impression to the guests and highly appreciated by international experts. As a result, sights made a decision to sign Cooperation Agreement between KazNU and Brazilian Association for Universities. Representatives of Brazilian Universities expressed their willingness to explore a new country and to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation.

International Day of Languages

On September 23 at the Faculty of International Relations the teachers of the chair of Diplomatic translation Ualihanuly A, Karipbayeva G. A., Smagulova A., Smagulova K. K., together with the student union "Sunkar" held a concert program to the day of languages. During the event there were presented various songs, poems, dances, etc.

Mr. Urs Schmid, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan and Coordinator on Cultural Relations of the Swiss Embassy Mr P.Ivanov have visited the Faculty.

On the 29th of May, 2019 at the special invitation of the Faculty of International Relations, Diplomatic Translation Department, H.E. Mr. Urs Schmid, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan and Coordinator on Cultural Relations of the Swiss Embassy Mr P.Ivanov have visited the Faculty.

Prof. A.K.Hikmetov, Vice-Rector on Academic issues and Head of International Cooperation Department B.E.Zholdybekova participated in the meeting.

Professor S.Zh.Aidarbayev, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations made an opening speech, giving the information about the Faculty.

H.E. Mr. Urs Schmid, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Kazakhstan and Tadjikistan has informed the participants about cultural, economic and scientific relations between the States and expressed his satisfaction with the initiatives of professors to promote close cooperation in the field of education and science.

Prof. A.K. Hikmetov, Vice-Rector on Academic Issues, has given the general information about the University, focusing on the great role of the Faculty of International Relations in preparing interpreters jointly with the Geneva school of interpreters.

Mr. Ambassador expressed his willingness and readiness to render assistance on the part of the Embassy.

During the meeting Prof. A.S. Seidikenova, Head of Diplomatic Translation Department has given the information and made the presentation of the new dictionary “Diplomatic dictionary” in 4 languages.

Finally, the distinguished guests participated in the opening ceremony of the Lingua laboratory for preparing “Simultaneous Interpreters”.

Prof. Seidikenova has informed the participants about the new laboratory, future plans and the current contacts with Geneva University “Interpreter School” and the scientific project which is being developed with this University.

The best translator at al-Farabi Kazakh National University

We are proud of you Aitkali Tayzhanovich!

Translation – creates bridges between cultures. Not every specialist of foreign languages is capable of doing translations. The specialty of the translator requires not only knowledge and culture of the people, as well as spontaneity and oratory on the part of the translator. Man having such qualities, an example for many linguists, Ph. N., associate Professor, our modest colleague Aitkali Tayzhanovich. In his student years, he was different from others with knowledge of French on equal terms with his native language and passed scientific training in France and Switzerland, has international certificates. Over the years, he worked as a simultaneous interpreter at the French Embassy in Kazakhstan and the French-Kazakh company “Katko”. Author of numerous dictionaries. In the framework of the program “Spiritual modernization” he translated poems and works of Kazakh writers and poets. These works are included in the " Ontology of Kazakh writers and poets” and is currently distributed in French-speaking countries such as France, Switzerland, Canada, Belgium, Burkina Faso, Mali, etc. Famous literary critic of France Albert Fischler praised his way of translation.

Nauryz holiday

Today al- Farabi Kazakh National University has celebrated a great holiday Nauryz. After the greeting of G.Mutanov, the Rector of the University , a spectacular festivity started. The students and the teaching staff demonstrated the unique customs and traditions of the Oriental nations. Each faculty hosted and welcomed the guests, including the representatives from diplomatic missions in their yurtas with the traditional Nauryz 'көже' аnd many other delicious things of the Kazakh cuisine. All the participants of the festivity enjoyed immensely- they were dancing, singing and playing the dombra. It was really exciting!


Gashyqtar kuni

Оn 15th of April at the International Relations Department 1 year students of "International Relations" and "Foreign Philology" specialties conducted an event named «Gashyqtar kuni». This event was organized under the guidance of teachers of Diplomatic Translation Chair. They are Karipbayeva G.A., Makisheva M.K., Dairbekova A.M. and Ualikhanuly A. and it became a traditional one for the Department as it has been conducting every year for more than 10 years. This year students organized this holiday in an extraordinary way, namely, beginning from the poem of M. Makatayev "Mahabbat dialogy - The Dialogue of Love" and finishing with the flash mob. The mainstream of the program was a scene of love of Japanese-Korean origin "Sakura Blossom". There were also games with the audience on the knowledge of songs and films about love from different times, which added fun to the whole event.

Annual international scientific conference «FARABI READINGS» among students and young scientists

On April 10, the Faculty of International Relations organized the annual international scientific conference «FARABI READINGS» among students and young scientists. Students of the specialty World economy-81 under the guidance of the lecturer Ualikhanuly A., Yusupov Utkirbek and Iztyleu Akmaral took 2nd and 3rd places in the sections «Languages of the UN» and «Translation as a means of intercultural communication».

III round of the Republican Olympiad “Al-Farabi”

On April 3-9, 2019, the final III round of the Republican Olympiad “Al-Farabi” took place in the al-Farabi Library. The Olympiad was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republican Scientific and Practical Center “Daryn” and al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The developers of test tasks in German and French and members of the competition jury were lecturers of the department of diplomatic translation of International Relations Faculty - Kotiyeva.L.M, Matkerimova R.A, Mukhametkalieva G.O.

International scientific - practical conference "The Translation World of al Farabi and the Transformation of Intercultural Researches in the Aspect of Learning Foreign Languages"

On 5-6 April 2019 al Farabi Kazakh National University within the framework of "VI International Farabi Readings" hosted the II International scientific conference "The Translation World of al Farabi and the Transformation of Intercultural Researches in the Aspect of Learning Foreign Languages".

The conference has been organized by Diplomativ Translation Department of International Relations Faculty of al Farabi Kazakh National University.

Prominent foreign scientists from Italy, Switzerland, Canada, Great Britain, Russia, South Korea, Poland and China and Kazakhstani scientists as well as the teaching staff, doctoral and master degree students of KazNU participated in it.   The main purpose of the conference is to bring together the researchers, practitioners and teachers who are interested in teaching languages, linguistics and translation studies at all the levels.

The main task of the conference is to reconder and find new definitions to the key items of the agenda, as well as to identify the new opportunities of cooperation which will determine the trends for further researches and developments.

At the conference welcome speeches were made by Academician G.M.Mutanov, rector of al Farabi Kazakh National University; by Bultrikov R.I., Head of Foreign Affairs Representation in Almaty; by Pasquale D'Avino Extraordinary and Plenipotentionary Ambassador of Italy to Kazakhstan; by Philippe Martinet, Extraordinary and Plenipotentionary Ambassador of France to Kazakhstan; by Alexis Shahtakhtinsky, General Consul of France to Kazakhstan; by Jilles Mametz, Attache on University cooperation of the Embassy of France.

The foreign scientists and conference participants shared their impressions about the conference. The speakers in their reports have focused on the issues of the practical application of innovative technologies in polylingual education and intercultural communication.
In general, the conference achieved its goals by interpersonal communication, translation, discussion that made a deep impression on the conference participants. Markus Perlman, professor of the University of Birmingham (in the ranking of QS World Universities - the 85th place and A. Akkari, professor of the University of Geneva (in the ranking of QS World Universities - the 105th place) thanked our university for further cooperation. The foreign ambassadors and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan expressed their readiness to support such conference that lead to creation of the bridge between countries and cultures.


The best student group-2019

At al-Farabi Kazakh National University there were held an annual competition “The best student group-2019”. The faculty of International Relations was represented by the group of the lecturer of the Department of Diplomatic translation Ualihanuly.A World economy-81. According to the results, this group has been advanced to the semi-final of the competition. The project “The best student group” is a unique project of the Union of students and undergraduates of Sunkar, which promotes the development of students, trains leaders, contributes to the development of the country. In the quarterfinal, each faculty which was taking part in the competition has demonstrated their 5-minute videos on the theme “Талайға арман болған, талайды қанат қақтырған ҚазҰУ”.

 

Professor of the University of Geneva (Switzerland) A. Akkari gives lectures at the Faculty of International Relations of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Diplomatic Translation Department of the Faculty of International Relations of al- Farabi Kazakh National University has invited Professor Abdeljalil Akkari from University of Geneva(Switzerland) to deliver lectures and hold seminars for Master's degree and PhD students and for the teaching staff, in particular, on such topics as 'Multilingual schooling, Quality Education, Cultural Diversity, Global Citizenship, etc. The participants were keenly interested in these issues and the feedback was very effective and mutually advantageous. University of Geneva takes the 105th place according to the QS World Universities Ranking !

Professor A.Akkari met with the first vice-rector of Al-Farabi KazNU. M.M. Burkitbaev. During the meeting, there were discussed issues of further cooperation between two universities. International Scientific and Methodological Workshop as a bridge between different countries and cultures

On February 23, 2019, at the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Department of Diplomatic Translation held an international scientific-methodical seminar on the topic "Modern Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages ​​and Translation" was held with the participation of foreign professors from Canada, France and Switzerland. More than 80 foreign language teachers from universities and colleges of the Republic took part in the seminar. The working languages ​​of the seminar were English and French. The visit of the professor of France in the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

On February 14,2019 at the initiative of Almash Smailovna, the Head of Diplomatic Translation Department and the staff members as A.S.Smagulova, the meeting with Licia Bagini , Professor of Poitiers University(France) was organized at the Faculty of International Relations. S.Zh.Aidarbayev, the Dean of the Faculty cordially welcomed and greeted the participants. Ms.Bagini made her presentation of educational and summer course programs. The students asked many questions about the life of students at the Universities of France, about the requirements how to apply, about tuition fees, travel expenses, etc. It was a very interesting and fruitful meeting for everyone.

On December 8-17, 2018 Head of the Department of Diplomatic Translation, Faculty of International Relations, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, post-doctoral student at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) (2012-2014), Professor Almash Seidikenova was invited as a visiting Professor to the University of Geneva (Switzerland) the Faculty of "Education and psychology" to give lectures to undergraduates and doctoral students. During the stay Prof. Seidikenova A gave a course of lectures on the theme: "Intercultural approaches in the training of teachers of foreign languages" for undergraduates and doctoral students and a public conference was organized by her on the theme "Education System of Kazakhstan after adoption of the Bologna process: "advantages and disadvantages". Besides, Prof. Seidikenova A. together with Professor A. Akkari have started launching the project "Intercultural approaches in teacher education: a comparative and exploratory study of Switzerland-Kazakhstan". It should be noted that the University of Geneva (Switzerland) is among the top universities in the world by QS world Universities Rankings and occupies the 108 place.

During the visit, Professor Almash Seidikenova was in contact with professors of the faculty of Philology and applied linguistics and Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, which has 77 years of experience in the field of translation, namely, met with Professor Olivier Demissy-Kazeilles, coordinator of international programs.

The lectures given by Professor Almash Seidikenova highly appreciated by the faculty and confirmed by a certificate. As a result, Professor Almash Seidikenova was invited to give a lecture to graduate students of the University of Geneva in June 2019.

Test in Latin

The Diplomatic translation department has organized a test to check the knowledge of the new latin alphabet introduced as the kazakh one. It was conducted in the form of dictation by the teachers of the department.The students of the International relations, International law, World economics and Area studies departments participated in it.The dictation was focused on the topic " Rukhani Zhangiru" and consisted of 77 words.It was possible to use the new alphabet as the example.The main goal is to introduce the new alphabet into the system of education and make it popular.The diplomatic translation department of the International relations faculty have initiated a concert program " Kazakhstan is the world's country" which comprised the international relations, international law, world economics and area studies freshmen, sophomores and the 3-d year students.The show program was spectacular and created a warm atmosphere full of fun as the students had a great chance to sing songs, dance and recite poems of tge prominent kazakh poets.The show was organized in the big hall of the students residence # 14, Kazakh National University after al Farabi.

Round table event "Let's have a fun (British Superstitions)"

In honor of the week of Languages on the 19 of September 2018 under the guidance of the curator-advisor of the Chair of Diplomatic Translation Dairbekova A.M the students of the 1 year of specialty "International Law" conducted a round table event with the topic "Let's have a fun (British superstitions)".

The event was held in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Students answered different questions and gave examples according to British superstitions and watched a video fragment from the movie in English and discussed it. Also they sang a song "Life" by Des'ree which means despite all the existing superstitions, we must always enjoy life and smile. In addition, at the end students wrote wishes in one word to each other on the card without signing it. Then these postcards were mixed up among themselves and gave back to the students, so each of them received a pleasant wish from the anonymous sender like happiness, love,smile and etc.

The venue of the event was Karasay batyr street 95 A, Department of International Relations, 324 room. This open-door curator lesson was also visited by the head of the Chair Seydikenova A.S and teachers Makisheva M.K, Karypbaeva G.A and Smagulova A.S.

Trip to Charyn Canyon

Advisers of the Department of Diplomatic Translation with the 1st and 2nd year students of the Faculty of International Relations took the opportunity to visit the Charyn Canyon on April 15 in order to acquaint students from all over Kazakhstan with the sights of Almaty. This thrip has been successful. The students returned home with pleasure and relaxation

At the department there is a tradition together with students to attend theater and cinema at the weekends in order to familiarize with the national cultural achievements. THE FRENCH LANGUAGE FESTIVAL “LE PRINTEMPS A LA FRANÇAISE”.

         The Diplomatic Translation Department of the Faculty of International Relations in the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University organized and celebrated the French Language Festival “LE PRINTEMPS A LA FRANÇAISE”.

         The most active freshmen sophomores of the faculty prepared very spectacular performances with the help of their supervisors and the French and English language instructors of the Diplomatic Translation Department of the International Relations Faculty in the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University: Raushan Matkerimova and Alma Murtaza.

         The festival show was stunning as the students organized very educational and comic sketches and skits. The best teams were awarded prizes.

         The talented students who performed sketches full of humour, sang very beautiful and soulful songs managed to show and reflect the cultural traditions of France.

         Fascinating interactive quiz followed the show and helped the performing teams to communicate with the viewers. The remarkable thing is that every student, who participated at the Festival could learn more and new about the French culture.

 

 

                  

                                         “Farabi world” international conference 

In the framework of  Vth  international Farabi readings faculty of International Relations, department of diplomatic translation have worked at the students’ and young scientists’ “Farabi world” international conference  on the “Current issues of  translation and intercultural relations” and on “Language and culture in the current world (UN official languages section). The students of I. Zhansugutov Zhetisu state  university and Suleiman Demiel university have participated in this conference and came out with their reports. Much attentions was paid to  translation issues and to new methods of teaching foreign language. Summarizing the results of the conference, many students with best reports were awarded special diplomas and participants were awarded with special certificates. 1st place was given to 3rd  year S.Demirel  student Muktsheva Meruert, mentor PhD senior lecture  Kurmanali Altynshash. 2nd place was given to  KazNU 2nd year student Kuaglio Tanya, mentor Matkerimova Raushan  and 3rd year student Zhetisu state  university Idigova Anya, mentor candidate of philological sciences S.M. Mashanova. 3rd place was given to 1st year KazNU master student Mazhenova Ayimgul, mentor candidate of philological sciences, senior lecturer A.T.Bakytova. To sum up, this conference was fruitful to young scientists and students. 

 

 

 

                                     Faculty of International relations through the eyes of foreign students

We are the 2nd year students at the Faculty of International Relations who came from China. We really like to study at this faculty. In addition to the main specialty “International Relations” we study two foreign languages. Thay are English and German (we are members of the German club “Deutsch Station” and in the future we hope for close cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and China in the field of education. 

 

                       Al Farabi Kazakh National University accepted the French delegation

On 6th April the French delegation from Poitiers made a working visit to Al Farabi Kazakh National University. The coordinator of Kazakhstan-French international programs Licha Badjini, the director of French center Gaella Shabas, the coordinator of faculty of philology Isabel Miyon, the teacher of faculty of economy Philip Rojon were in the delegation. They met with the director of international cooperation department Smailova Aizhan Bolatkhankyzy and hold talks on the future plans between two universities. After having discussions, the guests got acquainted with the work of “University French language resource center”. Furthermore, they had a chance to see “Francophonie Nauryz” organized by our students. Moreover, the guests met with the dean of international relations Aidarbayev S.ZH and also discussed future prospects between two universities. As a result of this meeting, our foreign colleagues showed a great intention to implement academic mobility between students and teachers, to exchange experience, to organize summer schools and to write joint scientific articles. Finally, we are completely sure that these kind of meetings will lead to further strengthening of Kazakh-French relations and will inspire students to learn French language from now forward.

Nauriz is a common holiday for all peoples of the East,  avery solemn day. Being celebrated by the eastern peoples as a beginning of the year, Nauriz is considered to be a special  day. Kazakh people also  appreciate Nauriz in a unique way and hold it as  trdition to celebrate it evry year. On 23 April 2018 Diplomatic translation department of the Faculty of International Relations organized an undertaking “Nauryz Fest” devoted to the celebration of the holiday Nauryz. First and second-year students  of  all specialties of the Faculty presented cultures, customs and traditions, languages of the following states: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, China, USA, Germany and Mexico. The students  displayed  sketches, musical performances, national clothing’s and cuisines. The prize winners   were awarded with diplomas. The Grand Prix was won by the second-year students of IL which presented Mexico.  The competition was very tense and interesting.

The use of films and music as a didactic technique in the German language classes

On April 6, 2018 at the faculty of international relations, the Department of Diplomatic Translation, together with the lecturer of DAAD, organized a methodical seminar for teachers on the use of films and music as a didactic reception in German as part of the DAF (Deutsch abs Fremdsprache-German as a foreign language) program. Lecturer of DAAD in KazNU named after Al-Farabi Kesler Thorsten and his colleague Yulia Yanka from the KNU acquainted the audience with new didactic methods in teaching German as a foreign language. The seminar participants discussed how new didactic methods can be linked to local traditions of teaching, which often differ from European ones.

 

On March 12, 2018, the President’s address of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev to the people was discussed by students of second year major International Law. 

"Five social initiatives of the President" which is focused on social modernization.

2. Reduction of taxes to low-paid workers.

3. Increasing the accessibility and quality of higher education and improving the living conditions of student youth.

Thanks to such activities, students realize that all initiatives and proposals of the President are thought out, realistic and based on clearly calculated capabilities of the domestic economy. 

 

Let’s Save our Green Planet!”

 On 19 April 2018 Diplomatic Translation Department of the Faculty of International Relations organized an undertaking within the frame of the university project “Green Campus”. The purpose of this undertaking is to develop ecological education of the students, namely: the formation of tender and responsible attitude to the environment, development of team work spirit, unity and friendship. The lecturer of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) speaks at a conference at the South Kazakhstan Pedagogical University.

Torsten Kessler, the lecturer of DAAD at Al-Farabi Kazakh State National University took part in the international scientific conference "Yunusov Readings" at the South Kazakhstan Pedagogical University in Shymkent on Friday on 30th of March. On invitation of the rector of the university, Mr. M.A. Zharkinbekov, DAAD lecturer Torsten Kessler made a welcoming speech and made a presentation of his work at the Department of Diplomatic Translation of Faculty of International Relations  at Al-Farabi KazNU. The theme is  "Integration of education and science in the context of the progress of the development and modernization of public consciousness." The conference was also attended by guests from Belarus, Spain, Iran and Uzbekistan

On January 5-6, 2018 in the hall of the Academic Council, the head of the Department of Diplomatic Translation of the KazNU. al-Farabi Ph.D., associate professor Seidikenova A.S. together with the Embassy of France in Kazakhstan, the Republican Association of Teachers and Teachers of French, the French Alliance of Almaty, with experts from the University of Suleiman Demirel, KazNPU them. The main tasks of the methodical seminar were: organization of scientific and methodological work of teachers' groups of faculties and departments, rendering assistance to them in improving teaching methods and upbringing; search for new, most rational methods of education and improvement, on this basis, of the educational process; improvement of the current system of improving the pedagogical skills of the professorial - the teaching staff of the university; the definition of the directions of scientific research on methods of teaching; organization and conduct of intra-university scientific and methodical readings. In 11.21.2017 within the framework of the program "100 books read" together with the group's adviser A.B. Tulepbergenova there was conducted an advisory class on the discussion of interesting books read among 2nd year students of the Russian department of "International Relations" specialty.

Any literature - past, modern, to some extent is a reflection of the time in which we live. In their writings, writers reflect the historical upheavals of the past and present, the moral world of the contemporary.

Nauryz Festival

May 5, 2017

Nauryz is a holiday of spring renewal and marks the spring equinox. For Kazakhs, this holiday is the symbol not only for spring renewal, but also the triumph of love, fertility and friendship. Students of the Faculty of International Relations annually celebrate the Nauryz Festival, because its important for the future diplomat to know and feel the peculiarities of culture, traditions, customs of other nationalities.

The Festival’s purpose is to enlarge knowledge of national traditions in the world, demonstration of the language wealth and cultural diversity through the English. Many representatives of different confessions and nationalities from Armenia, Georgia, Italy, Korea, the USA, UK, France, Germany, Japan and many others came to that holiday.

On the basis of multi-national holiday it is observed that each language is a part of the spiritual heritage of all mankind, and each culture is priceless contribution to the world civilization. Celebrations are accompanied by songs, poems, legends, dances, fun, games and national cuisine. You could try and enjoy   the different national cuisine,  their traditions, the sounds of national musical instruments, feel the hospitality of each nation on this holiday.

During the discussion the graduates were given a great opportunity to show the results of their research carried out on a given theme and share their opinions, hypothesis and critics.

The following themes were covered:

Teachers of diplomatic translation department of International Relations Faculty invited their colleagues from regional universities having come  to have English courses at KazNU to the Memorial Apartment of Dinmuhamed Ahmedovich Kunayev. The excursion  was conducted by the niece of D.A.Kunayev, Cerikbayeva Zhanet Dauletovna. She told  about the Public Life of D.A. Kunayev, about his goodwill to all people, despite their social status. Our guests were very happy to visit, because they hadn’t heard about the Museum at all and have got so interesting information about such an outstanding person, who led the Republic during 45 years.

In the dormitory №14, the evening of patriotic poetry was held on the theme: "Tugan zherge zhyr arnaydy akyndar!" ("Poets sing of their homeland"). The evening organized by the senior lecturer of the Department of Diplomatic Translation Z.A.Abidin and Student Council (Chairman Bauyrzhan Tomiris) was timed to 25th anniversary of Independence of our country. Z.A.Abidin opened the evening with M.Zhumabayev’s masterpiece "Suyemіn" ("I love") dedicated to  motherland and his people. Future diplomats read with great inspiration the works of Kazakh classic poets – M.Zhumabaev, A.Tazhibaev, M.Makataev, Zh.Moldagaliev and T.Moldagaliev. Students Zhuldyz Kairzhan ("Ana tilim") and Lyazzat Zhumanbaeva ("Kazakh halkyma") performed poems of their own, friends applauded and wished them further success. The audience also gratefully cheered to Afghanistani student Naqibullah Bekzat, who read very expressive and touching poem in Kazakh, to the talent of 2nd course student Bagdauletkyzy Sagynysh, who performed N.Tlendiev’s kui "Al-kissa", also to the host of the evening Abzhapparov Ardak. The evening was concluded with wonderful lines:

 "... Zher Ana syndy galamda,

  Tugan zher zhalgyz adamda!"

 

 

Meeting with the popular Kazakh film director Erkin Rakishev

The department of diplomatic translation has organized a meeting with the popular Kazakh film director Erkin Rakishev, which was held among the students of the International Relations Faculty on November 15, 2016.The famous film director demonstrated the most spectacular and interesting episodes of the newly made films "Aigerim" and "Never lose your hope". The newly shot films will be shown on TV screen soon. Erkin Rakishev shared his perspective projects with students and answered all the questions which were interesting for students. He revealed his future plans to shoot the new movie "Wolves".

 

 

Sweet Memories of the Summer School.


In the period of June 5 – 15th  2016 German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in cooperation with the Almaty Technological University (ATU) held a summer language school of German language in a holiday house Tau-Turgen. There were 21 participants in the Summer School, who represented cities such as Almaty, Karaganda, Oskemen and Kostanay. There were students from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan too. Students of the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Serikzhanova Inabat and Omarova Roza also attended the Summer school. Classes were conducted by teachers of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Almaty and Karaganda. One of them is Florian Tack, senior teacher of the Department of Diplomatic Translation of the Faculty of International Relations.

Classes were held twice a day and every day, the participants got acquainted with two new themes. Seminar topics ranged from grammar to the dialects, from the professional language to sports and music. Interactive form of workshops provided a funny ways to learn a foreign language. In their free time, the participants had the opportunity to communicate with native speakers, hold interesting contests, make presentations, and thereby improve their language skills. It was an incredible experience, that gave a lot of positive emotions and practical skills.

On the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, the department of diplomatic translation arranged a meeting with a member of the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan Mamytbek Khaldybai, who has had a very close links with Bauyrzhan Momyshuly. First of all, the guest gave brief information about his life and his first meeting with the Hero of the People B.Momyshuly. He talked about B.Momyshuly’s difficult but very generous character. Moreover, he recited one of his first poems ‘Bridge” which paved the way to his bright future. The students and teachers greatly enjoyed the meeting.

 

The 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate.

The main aim of this event is to introduce the history of the Kazakh Khanate and educate young people to respect traditions and values of their nation, strengthening the unity and harmony. Everyone knows that the Kazakh Khanate was founded in 1456-1465 by Janybek Khan and Kerey Khan on the banks of Zhetisu in the southeastern part of Kazakhstan. The Kazakh people had experienced a bitter history of prolonged oppression, degradation and abasement. However, they never gave up. Celebration of the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate is a sign of displaying a great respect to our formidable ancestors. In general, the event was of informative character, so the students got a lot of useful information.

  

“Nauryz Fest”.

‘Nauryz Fest’, which is devoted to Nauryz holiday, has become an annual festival hosted by the staff of the diplomatic translation department. The contest that has been looked forward to is organized by 1-3 year students. Each academic group will represent the country which has been chosen by themselves. They demonstrate that country’s traditions, customs and cuisine. Their performance is judged by the jury (consisted of students) that has been selected at random. This year ‘representatives’ of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan People’s Assembly, India, Japan, Cuba, China, Brazil, South Korea, and Tajikistan took part in the festival. They sang song, danced and wore national costumes of those countries. The best ones were awarded with prizes and various gifts.

  

French Week.

The ceremony of French Week started with a flash mob and presentation “About France” prepared by the students and a French trainer, Raushan. This enabled the students, particularly who were learning French, to get more information about the history, traditions and culture of France. In fact, French Week was full of other events: tasty food, flash mob, photography exhibition “France through the eyes of KazNU students”, Aquagrim, watching a film “Horisty”, Sightseeings of France and French culture and the Festival “La vie est une chanson” (concert, entertaining programs, etc.)

There is a good tradition among the advisors of the diplomatic translation department – going to the cinema and theater with their students. As most of the teachers supervise 1-2 year students, such initiatives are usually warmly welcomed by the students. A visit to the performances at M.Auezov theatre is an exciting experience for the fresher. This time they came to watch ‘Umit uzgim kelmeidi’ (I don’t want to lose hope) by N.Kelimbetov. The play made a great impression on the students... The second photo was made during the trip to Chaplin MEGA RealD 3D cinema to watch “Kenzhe”.

In the frame of “100 Kitap” (100 Books) project an exciting party was organized in the dormitary №14. This time students discussed “The Loss of Civilization” written by one of the prominent Kazakh poets M.Shakhanov. Since this work mainly touches upon the current problems of young people, it was held on the eve of a Student’s Day. The hosts started the party with various questions about the poet’s life and career. He was considered as a real patriot. The students talked about the main idea of “The Loss of Civilization” expressing their own opinions. Everyone enjoyed the party listening to the songs composed of M.Shakhanov’s words.

The event held in the frame of the project “Ainalandy nurlandyr” took place on the eve of Nayryz holiday. In accordance with this, the venue was decorated with national ornaments. The participants were also in national costumes. In fact, this was a contest arranged between the language departments of the University. As its name implies (“Different nations with common aims’), the contestants performed in Kazakh, English, Dutch, French, Chinese, Arab and Spanish. “A representative” of each country gave brief information about his/her country and demonstrated his/her artistic skills. The event ended up with a song of Y.Khasangaliev “Atameken”.

Diplomatic translation department staff organized a special lecture devoted to health problems of young people. It was delivered by K.A.Kabulbayeva, a resident physician. The main aim of the lecture was to explain the value of a person’s health. She talked about the ways of being healthy and keeping fit. She advised them to avoid bad habits such as drinking, smoking and eating too much fast food. Moreover, she asked about how effectively first aid renders assistance to people in our country.

  

Spanish Week.

The ceremony of Spanish Week started with the presentation “About Spain” prepared by the students and a Spanish teacher Barbara Pulimanti. The following day, Faculty members had a chance to attend a meeting where the Advisor on Trade and Economics of Spain Kristina Santa Maria Garcia made a speech. This meeting enabled the students, particularly who were learning Spanish, to get more information about the history, traditions and culture of Spain. During the meeting they asked a number of questions about things that they were interested in. Apart from this, Spanish Week was full of other events such as watching a film “Mirame yo soy la España”, organizing different concerts and preparing national Spanish food. The final day of the week was devoted to the Round Table “Intercultural dialogue in the process of world cultural communication”.

On the eve of President’s Day, the staff of Diplomatic translation department organized the lecture “N.Nazarbayev is the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan” for 1-2 year students. The lecture was delivered by а representative of Central Museum. It was held in interactive form. Asking various questions about the president’s childhood, life and career, the guest talked about very interesting moments of his life. Moreover, he used some slides which presented the whole picture of the president’s activities. Particularly, he focused on the contribution of N.Nazarbayev made into the development of young independent Kazakhstan. The students enjoyed the lecture.
