The decision to establish a branch of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the Kyrgyz Republic was made by the Head of State K.-Zh. Tokayev on the results of the official visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic S. Zhaparov to Kazakhstan on March 2-3, 2021. The official opening took place on May 26, 2022 with the participation of the presidents of the two countries.

The branch was registered at the Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic, received a license for educational activities and is located in a modern five-storey building with a total area of 6 thousand m2. The building has comfortable conditions for students, including specially equipped classrooms and laboratories. The training will be conducted in 13 educational programs at the bachelor's and master's levels in Kyrgyz, Russian and English languages. The list includes such areas as biology and biotechnology, mechanical and mathematical specialties, geography and environmental management, Oriental studies, information technology, journalism, philology, economics and business, law, chemistry and chemical technologies, philosophy and political science. According to the results of studying, students who have successfully passed the certification are awarded diplomas of the JSC "KazNU named after Al-Farabi".

In accordance with the educational plan, the branch in Bishkek is expected to accept 250-300 students for the 2022-2023 academic year. Currently, the branch is working on the admission and enrollment of applicants, which will be held twice a year: in summer and winter.

The branch will employ a teaching staff of 50 highly qualified specialists and scientists with scientific titles and degrees, 30% (15 people) of which are professors from KazNU. The teaching staff from Kyrgyzstan (35 people) will also be involved in the work in the branch. Courses on the educational and scientific process at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will be organized for local staff.

It is planned to provide internship opportunities for students at various enterprises and companies of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
