A meeting of the General Assembly of the University Alliance of the Silk Road (SUN) and a Parallel Session on the «Role of Universities for Transforming Silk Roads into Peace Roads with Prominent Human Heritages» was held at Al-Farabi Library. Over a hundred delegates from 50 universities from 19 countries took part in its work.

Opening the meeting, Secretary-General of the SUN Assembly, Sandon Hwan, highlighted the importance of this meeting, since such events help build confidence and expand relations between universities and countries. Recently, nine new members from universities in Afghanistan, Poland, Uzbekistan, Korea, Dubai and Iran were admitted to the organization. Today, the SUN unites more than 135 universities in the world.

During the meeting, a report on the financial and economic activities of the Organization was heard and information on the implementation of the current and future action plan was announced. Thus, in September and November of this year, it is planned to hold an international conference and symposium at the Imam Khomeini International University (Iran). Next year, it is planned to hold a photo contest «Colors of the Silk Road», a film festival – «Trade and Market along the Silk Road».

Similar ethnic contests were announced this year, where applications were submitted from 25 universities in the world. In general, it is planned to hold four cultural events where students can compete with their talents. Students from SUN member Universities can also participate in international job fairs, in a competition among youth symphony orchestras, in language programs and etc. It should also be noted that the Organization has published two issues of the «Vestnik» magazine. The next meeting of the General Assembly of the University Alliance of the Silk Road (SUN) is scheduled to be held in Ankara in 2020.
