This year has changed a lot in our perception of the world. Quarantine has made adjustments in all areas of life. We work, study, rest, and go in for sports differently. Nevertheless, there are constant values, which no pandemic can change.

In accordance with the program of reserve officers training at the Military Department of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in July-August, training sessions were held with students who have completed the full course of study. In connection with the coronavirus pandemic, the training camp is held online.

The key points of the speech by the President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on combating corruption has been discussed at an extended meeting of the rectorate of Al-Farabi KazNU. The Head of State noted that it is necessary to conduct a qualitative analysis of the conditions that lead to corruption in various spheres. Evaluation of the effectiveness of activities in this direction should not be based on the number of bribes identified, but «should be formed on the basis of measures taken to prevent, minimize the risks of corruption and eliminate barriers in obtaining public services».

For the first time in the history of cultural, literary, as well as book publishing life of Kazakhstan, on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet, composer, philosopher and outstanding personality Abai Kunanbayev, a full collection of his works in ten volumes has been published. It includes Abai's poems and prose translated into foreign languages.

At a meeting of the Academic Council of Al-Farabi KazNU, measures to increase openness and transparency of the educational process have been discussed. The issues on introduction of anticorruption standard of the MES RK, reduction of corruption risks and application of modern digital technologies in business processes of University have been discussed during the meeting.

For the first time in Kazakhstan, the Day of Abai is being celebrated on 10 August. In the year of the 175th anniversary of the great Kazakh thinker, poet and enlightener, a presentation of the thematic hall was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

At the regular meeting of the rectorate, which was held in online format, topical issues of educational and methodical work were discussed, including the results of the summer semester, as well as admission to Master’s and Doctoral studies. In addition, the academic calendar for 2020-2021 year has been presented for consideration.

The issues related to the admission of students to Master’s and Doctoral programs have been discussed at the regular meeting of the rectorate of Al-Farabi KazNU. Askar Khikmetov, Vice Rector for Educational Work, has reported on the organization of work on the admission of students to educational programs of doctoral studies.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, which is heading the Global Hub of the UN «Academic Impact» Program, took part in the international online conference «Environmentally Friendly Cities and Economic Solutions for Academic Community to Achieve the Goal». The event, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, has brought together prominent experts from UNEP (UN Environment Programme), UNIDO (Industrial Development) and scientists from leading world universities. 

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University shared its experience in implementing corporate social responsibility in an international online webinar. Representatives of the QS authoritative rating agency, the Union of Arab Universities and the ACSR member-universities, have attended the event, organized by the Arab Council for Social Responsibility (ACSR).
