As part of activities to implement the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 3 “Ensuring a healthy lifestyle and promoting well-being for everyone at any age” at the Department of Health Policy and Organization of KazNU. al Farabi, second-year master's students majoring in “Healthcare Management” conducted an educational lesson on the topic “Screening studies of the population in the Republic of Kazakhstan”.

Screening studies are a complex of medical examinations of healthy individuals who do not have clinical symptoms or complaints in order to identify and prevent the development of various diseases at an early stage. Screening is regulated by the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan on public health and the healthcare system, as well as by Order of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated October 30, 2020 No. KR DSM-174/2020 On approval of target groups of people subject to screening studies, as well as the rules, volume and frequency of these studies. Screening studies are carried out in healthcare organizations providing outpatient care, including using mobile medical complexes and medical trains.

Screening is carried out in target groups by age for early detection of the following diseases: men and women - for the detection of arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, colorectal cancer; women – for early detection of cervical and breast cancer; men – for early detection of prostate cancer.

Every year, PHC organizations create lists of target groups, notify the population about the need and conditions for undergoing screening tests, and also ensure their timely completion. Based on the screening results, patients with various identified pathologies are subject to registration and dynamic monitoring, and, if necessary, are sent for further examination.

Screening studies are carried out free of charge within the framework of the State Fund for Medical Care and Compulsory Medical Insurance.
