International Subject Olympiad "Physical Chemist-2023" among students of republican and foreign higher education
On February 22-23, 2023, the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University holds an international subject Olympiad in the discipline "Physical Chemistry", dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Honorary Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Khabibulla Kussainovich Ospanov.

Academician Khabibulla Kussainovich Ospanov was a well-known chemist in the field of thermodynamic and kinetic characteristics of the processes of selective dissolution of numerous minerals, one of the authors of a textbook on physical chemistry in kazakh, a public figure, a laureate of the National Independent Prize "Platinum Tarlan" (the highest prize) in the nomination "Science" and was included in the book "Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century" (Cambridge, England). Kh.K. Ospanov is the only scientist in the history of modern Kazakhstan, who has four world discoveries to his credit. In 2011, the International Association for Hydrogen Energy (Miami, USA) nominated him for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He also published over 1200 scientific papers, including over 130 copyright certificates for inventions of the USSR and patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is the author of 20 scientific monographs, five of which were published in England, two in Germany, one in Russia, and two US patents. Under his leadership, 45 candidate and 6 doctoral dissertations were prepared and defended. |

Procedure order of the olympiad
The Olympiad is held online. Students of 2-3 courses in chemical specialties of higher education can take part in the Olympiad.
The Olympiad is held in 2 stages:
- the first stage is presented in the form of test tasks, including 30 questions. The maximum score is 30.
- the second stage is to perform 3 calculation tasks. The maximum score is 70.
At the first stage of the olympiad, participating students will be given 30 minutes to complete tasks on the Kahoot platform!
180 minutes are allotted to complete the second stage. Calculation tasks are performed in Microsoft Word indicating the university, last name, initials of the participant. Works are sent for verification in electronic format to the mail physchem.kaznu@gmail.com before the end of the above time (180 minutes). The file is called by the last name and first name of the participant.
Registration
Responsible persons and students participating in the olympiad undergo electronic registration within the period established by the organizing committee through an electronic form. Registration will close on February 19, 2023 at 24:00.

Written complaints and applications received within 24 hours after the announcement of the results of the olympiad are submitted to the Appeals Commission in the online form.

Olympiad of Physical Chemistry is the step to international cooperation
On May 26, 2022, the official visit of the Head of State Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev to the Republic of Kyrgyzstan took place. During the visit, the opening of a branch of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi in Kyrgyzstan took place. To develop and strengthen cooperation in the field of education and science, the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology organized and held the first international Olympiad "Physical Chemist-2023" on February 22-23, 2023. The subject Olympiad was devoted to the 90th anniversary of the honourable Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ospanov Khabibulla Kusainovich. The Olympiad was attended by students of chemical specialties of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi and the Kyrgyz State University named after I. Arabaev.
It was held in an online format, by two stages: the implementation of test and calculation tasks. Students of KazNU Zhaksybay Bagashar, Ergeshov Maksat were awarded diplomas of I, II degrees with material incentives of 100,000 and 75,000 tenge, respectively, the 3rd place was shared by a student of KazNU Mukanov Askar and a student of I. Arabaev KSU Tashmatova Ogulay (50,000 tenge each). Participants of the Olympiad received certificates. The sponsor of the Olympiad was Karlygash Kabidenovna Aldabergenova (Aubakirova), a graduate of the Department of Physical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi, one of the students of H.K. Ospanova.
