Publication presentation of the Kazakh version of the book «Atomic Steppe: How Kazakhstan Gave Up the Bomb» written by a famous scholar Togzhan Kasenova

On October 7, 2022, International Relations Department of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held publication presentation of the Kazakh version of the book «Atomic Steppe: How Kazakhstan Gave Up the Bomb» written by a famous scholar Togzhan Kasenova, which is published by Stanford University Press in the USA.

The Kazakh version of this book acquaints Kazakhstani people with the historical perspective how the Republic of Kazakhstan pursued a policy of renunciation of nuclear weapons – the heritage of the Soviet Union, taking into account the sufferings caused by nuclear weapons in the result of testing it to the local people as well. The book was translated from English into Kazakh with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Kazakhstan.

The author of the book, Togzhan Omirserikovna Kassenova is a doctor of political sciences, a qualified expert in the field of nuclear security, a senior fellow at the State University of New York at Albany (USA), and a nonresident fellow of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
