On October 27-28, 2023, the “2nd International Academic Olympiad in Korean Studies for Students of Central Eurasia” was held at the Istanbul University of Turkey. Olympiads in Korean Studies of the Faculty of Philology of Istanbul University are held regularly every year. This year, students from Bulgaria, Ukraine, Slovenia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, who were selected in the first round at their native universities, took part in the international Olympiad. Professors from South Korea, Spain, Slovenia, Great Britain and Hungary were invited as the jury of the Olympiad.

The International Academic Olympiad in Korean Studies was held in parallel with the 6th International Conference on Korean Studies in Central Eurasia, where professors from different countries spoke. Master student of the 2nd year of the Department of the Far East of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Kozhakhmetova Zhaniya, under the guidance of professors Lee Byong Jo and Myong Soon Ok presented her project on the topic “Perspectives of exchanges and cooperation between Kazakhstan and South Korea through medical tourism” and won the 2nd prize. The winners of the Olympiad were awarded diplomas and cash prizes. In her interview, Zhaniya noted that “Participation in the international Olympiad is a great honor for me. First of all, it was a useful experience for me, since there were students and professors from different countries. It was especially interesting to discuss with professors and answer their questions after the presentation. And of course, I am very grateful to our Department and Faculty for their help and support”.

Master student of the Department of the Far East Kozhakhmetova Zhaniya once again showed a high level of knowledge in the field of Korean studies, this achievement has become a good example for all participants in Korean studies.
