On April 7 and 28, 2021, an online meeting was held between students studying Korean at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi KazNU and students studying Kazakh at Hanguk University of Foreign Studies.

For several years, as part of the academic mobility program, our students went to South Korea for language internships. But since the beginning of the pandemic, it has not been possible to exchange students. Therefore, we decided to organize an online meeting for the benefit of students from both countries. The purpose of this event is to acquaint students studying Kazakh and Korean with each other, exchange information, improve speaking skills and gain experience.

The conference was organized by Kuryshzhan Aliya from Hanguk University of Foreign Studies and Amirbekova Umitay from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The online conference was attended by 10 students from each university.

During the meeting, our students had the opportunity to speak with Korean students studying the Kazakh language, discuss various topics and acquaint them with the culture of their countries. Korean students spoke Kazakh and Kazakh students spoke Korean, trying to overcome the language barrier. The event was attended by students of the same language level, so it was convenient for them to find a common language. At the first meeting, each student introduced themselves and talked about their hobbies, and at the end of the meeting, students exchanged numbers, as this would allow them to communicate further. At the second meeting, students from both countries, who became acquainted with each other, talked about national dishes. They exchanged views on their favorite dishes, Korean dishes that Kazakh students tasted, Kazakh dishes that Korean students ate, and the meeting ended with a discussion of the meaning of Nauryz kozhe. The students decided to hold such an online meeting on a regular basis. It is obvious that such meetings give many people the opportunity to make foreign friends and improve their speaking skills in the language they are studying.
