In order to realize the strategic development of the university, the development of external academic mobility, also in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of science and education Department of the Far East of Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabiwith Waseda University (Japan), initiated the Winter School in 2017. Students who specialize in the study of Central Asia arrived in the amount of 8 people with the head professor Ogihara Atsushi.

On March 11th 2017, the al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the annual competition of Japanese speech contest, which has been held regularly since 1999.

The president's visit N.A. Nazarbayev to Japan was an important contribution to the further development of relations between Japan, Kazakhstan and the other Central Asian countries. 

At the beginning of the new semester, there was another really significant event after the founding of the Kazakh National University in 1934. This is the opening ceremony of the Triumphal ark of graduates “Мәңгілік ел”, which became a kind of "pagoda of science" opens the doors of the University.

Senior lecturers of Far East department, at Al Farabi Kazakh National University S.K. Borankulova and M.T.Shadayeva organized the methodical seminar “Methods of teaching of East language: based on Japanese language” for Oriental studies faculty teachers. 

On 1^st December, 2016 at the general meeting of the Association of South Korean small and medium business of Almaty held a ceremony of scholarships to the best students of the Korean studies department of the Far East KazNU.

At the International competition in South Korea on the 12^th essay contest and oratory Taldybaev Zhanadil showed the best result among foreign students. In the International competition participated representatives from Malaysia, Bulgaria, Russia, USA, Ukraine, Indonesia, Mongolia, China, Japan, Monaco and Rwanda.

The scientific and educational international relations  of Department of the Far East with the leading world universities on a regular basis allows teachers to improve their skills, to take training courses and participate in lectures, seminars, master classes conducted by foreign organizations.
