The 11^th Republic Student Olympiad on the specialty “Oriental Studies” took place at the Oriental Studies faculty of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The XI Republican student Olympiad of knowledge on Oriental Studies, which is the annual event was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of KazNU named after al-Farabi. The number of participants in the section of Korean studies this year was 27 students from KazNU named after al-Farabi, Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov.

This spring, in the framework of the winter school, the Far East Department has welcom on the campus of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University 47 students from Japan. Among them were senior students from the University of Tokyo, Univesity of Tsukuba, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and Kochi University.

A student of the Department of the Far East under the program "FY 2018 METI Japan Internship Program, Technical Cooperation & Emerging Market Development Program" organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI), had an internship in Tokyo in the company Chiyoda Technol Corporation (株式会社 田 田 テ ク ノ ル).

The Department of the Far East of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held an essay contest on the knowledge of the Korean language. The event was financed by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Almaty. For the first time, all students of Korean studies took part in the competition.

Professor Lee Sang-In, as a guest lecturer from Hanyang University in Seoul, contributed to the Couse of Asian Community with the theme “Korean Cultural Wave and Korean Films in Asian Community” on March 15, 2019, which conducts as a regular discipline for the students of Department of Far East Studies under the international program of “One Asia” supported by One Asia Foundation in Tokyo of Japan.

The Department of the Far East met the newly appointed Consul General of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Kim Heung-soo at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

On March 15, 2019, a student forum was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies as part of the winter school with the participation of the Far East Department and the Faculty of Human Sciences of Tokyo University.

The week of Korean studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University began with the traditional event “What do we know about Korea?”. Each year, senior students prepare questions for a competition among freshmen on Korean history.
