Training on remote monitoring of glacial systems

As part of the implementation of SDG 13, teacher of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology Abdullaeva A.S. took part in an international training on remote monitoring of glacial systems (cataloging glaciers using remote sensing data and Arc GIS software) for scientists from Central Asian countries, organized by the Central Asian Regional Glaciological Center category 2 under the auspices of UNESCO with the support of the German Society for International Cooperation ( GIZ) within the framework of the “Green Central Asia” program, March 11-15, 2024. Participants received not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills in deciphering glaciers using GIS technologies, methods and algorithms for preparing optical satellite images and DEMs, automation and semi-automated mapping of glacier boundaries, determination of morphometric parameters of glaciers. All participants were also awarded a certificate of successful completion of a 5-day training on remote monitoring of glacier systems.
