The “Mudflow Association” award - recognition and incentive in the study of mudflow phenomena, forecasting, protection from disasters

Mudflows in mountainous regions cause significant damage to the economy and often lead to casualties among the population. To solve the mudflow problem, the cooperation of experts from different countries is required. In this connection, the Inter-Regional Public Organization “The Debris Flow Association” was established in Pyatigorsk on the basis of the decision of the founding meeting of 05/17/2005. At present, the “Debris Association” is the world's largest association of mudflows and protection against them, which consists of more than 160 experts from 23 countries.
Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi is included in the list of organizations of the “Debris Association”, and the membership is supported by Doctor of Geographical Sciences Ye.A. Talanov.
In the period from October 1 to October 5, 2018, the 5th International Conference on “Debris Flows: Disasters, Risk, Forecast, Protection". The conference was devoted to the discussion of such issues as global and regional analysis of mudflows, mudflows of recent years, the risk and forecast of mudflows, modeling, mudflow danger of glacial lakes, ice-water-stone flows, environmental protection measures, regulatory documents on mudflow forecasting and design anti-mudflow structures and structures, schools and traditions of mudflow. About 200 experts from Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Brazil, Britain, Germany, Georgia, India, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Morocco, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, France and Switzerland took part in the conference. The “Debris association” awards professional awards - medals named after S.M. Fleischman to an outstanding scientists in the field of mudflows studying . At the closing ceremony of the 5th international conference for merits in the field of planting of trees and development of international cooperation, the S.M. Fleischman Medal was awarded to the following members of the Association: O. Natishvili (Georgia), R. Genevois (Italy), E. Talanov (Kazakhstan) and D. Znamensky (Brazil).
