On September 20, 2024, the first literary event of the "Gulistan" club under the Iranian Studies Department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at KazNU took place, marking the beginning of the new academic year (2024-2025).

September 27 (17th in the Iranian calendar) is recognized as National Persian Poetry and Prose Day in honor of the death anniversary of the Iranian poet Mohammad Hossein Shahriar.

In honor of this significant day, the first meeting of the "Gulistan" club, attended by first- and second-year students of the Iranian Studies Department, addressed two agenda items.

First, the biography of Iranian poet Mohammad Hossein Shahriar was presented, along with an analysis of his love epic, including a translation and detailed discussion of one of his poems.

Second, two translated books by first-year graduate student Gauhar Omarhanova, published in Iran, titled Qas Kagym and Layli-Majnun, were introduced and gifted to the students.

The collection of short poems in the haiku style, Qas Kagym by Iranian poet Parviz Beigi Habibabadi, was translated from Persian into Kazakh and published in 2021 by Fasle5 in Tehran. Its unique feature is that it leaves space for the reader to write, turning the book into a kind of personal notebook.

Kazakh poet and thinker Shakarim Kudaiberdiev's Layli-Majnun was translated from Kazakh into Persian and published in Tehran in 2024 by Kheradegan. The purpose of this translation was to introduce Persian audiences to a disciple of Abai's literary school and to show how the theme of Layli-Majnun is also reflected in the Kazakh literary tradition of nazira.
