April 28-30, 2021, there was the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Chemical Technologies of Functional Materials", organized jointly by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry) and Novosibirsk State Technical University (Novosibirsk, Russia). This conference is traditional, annual and is held alternately in Russia and Kazakhstan.

Within the framework of the conference, such areas as "Scientific foundations for predicting the processes of synthesis, modification and manufacture of functional materials", "Environmental aspects of obtaining functional materials", "Processes and devices of chemical technologies" and "Physicochemical studies of catalytic processes and catalysts of petrochemistry and oil refining ".

Studies such as “The effect of organic additives on 3-d structured catalysts for the hydrotreatment of tar and fuel oil is being investigated”, “Synthesis and oxidative properties of Pd/MgO catalysts” were considered.

The total number of conference participants was 395 people, including 253 foreign participants. 132 reports were presented, including 80 oral and 52 poster presentations.

As a result of the conference, a collection of conference proceedings was published, indexed in the RSCI database. An agreement was reached with the editors of the ATEC Web of Conferences journal, indexed in the Web of Science database, to publish articles in a special issue of the journal.
