The International Scientific and Practical Conference «Kazakhstan as a Migration Hub of Eurasia: the Contribution of Migration to Sustainable Development» was held at KazNU

The event was attended by representatives of expert, scientific and business community, as well as diplomatic missions, public and international organizations accredited in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Conference is aimed at strengthening multilateral dialogue on migration and cooperation in the Eurasian space, assessing the role of Kazakhstan and its partners in shaping a sustainable system for regulating migration flows in the context of sustainable development.

Opening the meeting, the First Vice-Rector of KazNU Mukhambetkali Burkitbayev highlighted that migration processes have become an integral part of globalization and sustainable development. «Al-Farabi KazNU, as the leading University of the country, took an active course towards integration into the world educational space and orientation to the best world practices in the field of higher education. Today, KazNU is focused on the implementation of priority goals in the field of education that were stated in the State Strategy «Kazakhstan-2050», in the program «Ruhani Zhangiru», as well as enshrined by the UN in the global Sustainable Development Agenda for the period until 2030», – noted the Rector.

In turn, the Director of the Institute of Socio-Political Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Demographic and Migration Policy of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Russia, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Ryazantsev thanked the University for its support and assistance in organizing the event.

The Plenary Session also featured the presentations on migration in the subregion of North and Central Asia, including the main directions of migration policy of Kazakhstan.

The Conference was organized in cooperation with the Institute of Social and Political Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, MGIMO of the MFA of Russia, the International Organization for Migration, and the UN Department of Public Information in the framework of the project «Migration Bridges in Eurasia».
