The UNESCO Chair in Journalism and Communication at al-Farabi Kazakh National University has extended its UNESCO status for another four years.

Under the chairmanship of State Counselor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Karin, a meeting of the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO was held. The presentations on Kazakhstan's priority tasks and the implementation of UNESCO's medium-term strategy (2022-2029) were heard at the meeting, as well as current issues of the activities of the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In the overview of UNESCO's cooperation in the field of information and communication, the activity of the UNESCO Chair on Journalism and Communication at al-Farabi Kazakh National University and its massive open online courses were highly praised. Aliya Baisabayeva, the Secretary-General of the National Commission, noted that the UNESCO status of this chair and the contract with UNESCO headquarters in Paris have been extended for another 4 years. Recently, the official letter was sent to al-Farabi Kazakh National University from Paris.

 The Chair works closely with international UNESCO chairs through the UNITWIN program.
