At the beginning of the current academic year, on October 8, a meeting was held with Professor Ahmet Buran, from Firat University, Elazig, Turkey. Ahmet Buran is a professor in the Department of Modern Turkic Languages of the Faculty of Philology at Firat University, a specialist of Kazakh and Kyrgyz languages. He is the author of several research projects related to the Kypchak group of Turkic languages.

An honorary professor held a scientific seminar on the topic “Problems of teaching Kazakh as a foreign language in Turkey” specially prepared for the teaching staff and students of the Turksoy department.

The workshop lasted several hours and aroused great interest among the participants. During the seminar, he often spoke and answered questions in the Kazakh language, emphasizing the importance of teaching Turkic languages in Turkey, including Kazakh. He noted that humanitarian ties between the two countries are developing more consistently by comparison with other countries, claiming a special role of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the leader of the nation N.Nazarbayev. 

During the seminar, together with the staff of the Turksoy Department, the dean of the faculty Yktiyar Paltore expressed his enthusiasm and appreciation. In addition, general tendencies and problems of modern Turkic studies were discussed; the issues of scientific-theoretical and practical aspects of Turkic studies were discussed.

At the end of the seminar, Ahmet Buran, on behalf of the professor, rector of the Firat University, Kutbeddin Demirdag, presented to the university dean Yktiyar Paltore, the university logo and an agreement on the Mevlana program. In addition, as a part of a research project, he donated his books “Term-Dictionary on Turkology” and “Modern Turkish literary languages” (4 volume) to the library of the department. At the end of the meeting, the dean of the faculty provided a letter of appreciation on behalf of the entire faculty staff.
