“Internet Security: Enhancing Information Exchange Safeguards”

7th International Workshop on 'Internet Security: Enhancing Information Exchange Safeguards' is to be held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on December 19 to 23. The seminar is organized in the framework of a two-year (2016-2017) ISESCO-COMSATS Cooperation Program in cooperation with Al-Farabi KazNU, the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) and the Inter-Islamic Network on Information Technology (INIT).

The seminar is to train and develop joint research and innovation activities in the following areas: information as an object of protection; organization of information protection; means of information protection; analysis of potential threats to cyber security and establishing the necessary regime of information protection; the formation, development and active implementation of cyber security culture.

The problem of ensuring the protection of information exchange has been one of the most urgent for the last 10 years. For instance, the United Nations General Assembly resolution of 21 December 2009 notes following: "The creation of a global culture of cyber security and the assessment of national efforts to protect critical information infrastructures is a priority for the entire international community."

The organization of the International Seminar featuring leading scientists of the Islamic world, is also the implementation of the Head of the State, Nursultan Nazarbayev’s, instruction, which was announced during the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on science and technologies, held on September 10-11, 2017 in Astana. The instruction particularly noted the importance of new technologies’ introduction, digitalization and development of competence centers on the basis of research universities, the implementation of “Digital Kazakhstan” program.

The organization of the workshop with the participation of international experts is also connected with the formation of the International IT Techno-park on the basis of Al-Farabi KazNU, where the supercomputer is to operate.

Within the framework of the Workshop, following topics on information exchange security to be discussed: organization certification, practical approaches to the management of organizational information security, ISO 27001, information security management systems, information security policies and procedures, etc. In addition, the CLOUD concept and security models will be scrutinized, which also includes mechanisms of cloud security and threats to them, problems and security technologies of IoT. The workshop will also address security issues in wireless networks, and raise such relevant topics as cyber-attacks prevention, DOS attacks, and other, more advanced attack methods.

Well-known researchers and experts from Pakistan, UAE, Jordan, Iran, Bangladesh, Mauritania, Sudan and Nigeria will partake in the workshop.
