Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Kazakhstan Batyr Rejepov. The sides discussed issues of Kazakhstani-Turkmen cooperation in the field of education and science, and outlined further plans to strengthen them.

Welcoming the honored guests, the head of the university, Zhanseit Tuimebayev noted the fruitful cooperation of KazNU with the universities of Turkmenistan. "Diplomatic relations between our states was established in 1992. Today, our countries are strategic partners that have been developing cooperation in many areas, including in the field of education since 1997. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has signed two agreements with the following universities of Turkmenistan: the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Makhtumkuli State University. To date, 540 students from Turkmenistan are studying at KazNU, 535 of them are on a contractual basis, 5 students study on the basis of a state educational grant," Zhanseit Tuimebayev stated.

In turn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Kazakhstan Batyr Rejepov congratulated the staff of KazNU on obtaining the status of a research university and stressed that the leading university of Kazakhstan has become a favorite place of Turkmen students. "KazNU is a popular university among Turkmenistan’s students. This year 185 students from Turkmenistan entered the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. I am certain that the number will only increase," Batyr Rejepov said.

In addition, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary proposed to sign a cooperation agreement for the purpose of joint training of highly qualified specialists in the IT field. At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on the implementation of their plans and exchanged gifts.
