Comprehensive archaeological research is being conducted for the first time under the guidance of archaeologists of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the Ayagoz district of the Abai region.

Previously, balbala stones were discovered in this region. There are about 20 large and small mounds in the area. Currently the research group is engaged in excavation in order to explore new facts about the culture, art, history, beliefs of the ancient inhabitants of Kazakhstan. Researchers are supervised by professors of the Department of Archeology, Ethnology and Museology of KazNU: Gani Omarov, Bauyrzhan Besetaev and Symbat Sagyndykova.

"Such comprehensive studies in Ayagoz are being conducted for the first time. Within the framework of the project, which started in 2021 about 60 previously unknown burial grounds were studied. There are from 10 to 50 archaeological monuments in each necropolis," states the project manager, Candidate of Historical Sciences Gani Omarov.

During the research, the burial grounds of Bozai 2, located near the village of Bozai, were completely excavated. According to archaeologists, the region where the monuments were located was used as arable land during the Soviet period. For this reason, most of the mounds are poorly preserved. Currently, archaeological excavations have been carried out at 3 sites. The burial mound No. 1 of the Bozai 2 burial ground has small dimensions. The remains of a man lying on his back were found in the burial ground at a depth of half a meter. The bones of the skeleton on the right side and the skull have not been preserved. And the second mound of the Bozai 2 necropolis has been completely looted. Earlier, a trench was dug next to the mound with the help of equipment. An iron badge from a belt was found.

At the moment, research works are continuing on the mound No. 1 of the Bozai 1. This object is one of the largest mounds in the Bozai steppe. These relics are not related to the main burial place in the Mound. Archaeologists are studying these remains. During the research work, archaeologists conducted an excursion around the excavation site for students of the local school and shared their experience.
