One important aspect of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a collaboration in education, which develops in the Special Agreement between the Governments of States - members of SCO, which provided for exchange of experiences and information related to reforms in education, support and development of integration processes, the creation of mechanisms for recognition and equivalence of documents on the establishment of the sample, the establishment of direct links between educational institutions of States - members of SCO.

To solve the problems in education was created University of Shanghai Cooperation Organization - USCO. Its main objective - is to prepare a new generation of specialists in five most popular specialties in all countries of the SCO: regional studies, energy, environment, nanotechnology, IT-technology.

Kazakh National University is selected as the base (head) of the institute USCO on three areas: Ecology, Nanotechnology and Regional Studies. According to an Ecology KazNU is the coordinator of the educational programs of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Participation in the SCO University is considered by us as a serious contribution to the formation of a single educational space, combining the best national traditions and accepted global standards.

April 26, 2010 in Moscow signed a Memorandum of Cooperation al-Farabi KazNU with universities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to establish the University of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (53 Universities of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Russia) signed multilateral and bilateral agreements on implementation of the masters degree programs between the al-Farabi KazNU and partner universities.

The USCO program has the open organization status, in activities which will bring together scholars of our university and foreign partners.

In al-Farabi KazNU established Training Center, University of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (USCO), which carries out the planning, execution and implementation of the program.

On 2010-2011 academic year will be carried out the first set of undergraduates to the University of SCO.
