Security and Cooperation Studies Institute, Academic regional resource and information Centre about the UN at the Faculty of International Relations, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in cooperation with the UN Global Communications Department Representative in Almaty held the student round table called “Gender equality perspectives for Kazakhstan in terms of its UN SDGs` commitments".

 

The event was held in the framework of facilitating the SDG Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. The round table was attended by the representative of the UN Global Communications Department in Almaty, Vlastimil Samek; Natia Gabelia, Spotlight Regional Programme Coordinator in Central Asia and Afghanistan and Director of the Research Center for Social and Gender Studies, Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University, Aizhan Salimzhanova.

 

Presentations were made by young scientists of the Department of International Relations and World Economy of KazNU. al-Farabi:

Azhar Tursynalieva: “Gender stereotypes in Kazakhstan’s society: impact of the media and commercials”;

Zhulduz Baizakova: "Certain aspects of the Identity Politics: gender related issues";

Aizhan Sakentai: “Discussion of the results of a social survey on gender equality: awareness and issues”.

Event resulted in lively discussion and questions between the audience and participants.
