Activities under the Dastur al-ilaj project

International Scientific and Practical Conference "STEPPE MEDICINE: DATA, HISTORY, APPLICATIONS, CONCEPTS AND TERMS " 

 

 

4-5 OCTOBER 2022 Research Center "Written Monuments and Spiritual Heritage" of the Turksoy Department, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Al-Farabi KazNU (Almaty, Kazakhstan) organized an international scientific and practical conference on the topic "STEPPE MEDICINE: DATA, HISTORY, APPLICATION, CONCEPTS AND TERMS" within the framework of the research project AP09259326 "Dastur al-'ilaj" - as a source of steppe medicine".

 

The conference was organized in order to broadly analyze the historical and cultural significance of medieval medicine, to study the process of formation, development and spread of folk healing culture, to consider the level of knowledge, to draw attention to the study of written exhibits of modern medical topics that have survived to this day.

At the conference, held with the participation of foreign scientists, topics such as terminological meaning, features, historical origins of ethnomedicine were put forward; the manifestation of traditional medicine in the socio-economic, ritual, religious and cult and other aspects of ethnic culture; medieval written monuments, studies, personalities in the field of medicine; healing culture of the Turkic peoples; intersection of cultures and sciences in the field of traditional medicine.

 

On the first day of the conference, scheduled in an online format, the first speech were given to Acting Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Associate Professor N.B.Yem, Head of the Department Turksoy Ph.D. K. Gabdullin, director of the research center "Written monuments and spiritual heritage" associate professor Z. Shadkam.

 

 

This meeting was attended by research scientists from Turkey, Poland, the Republic of Iran and Kazakhstan, who shared new data on the steppe and traditional medicine of the Turkic people. Among them were: Professor of Karamanoglu University Mehmetbey I.N. Uysal (Turkey), Associate Professor of Kirsehir University Ahi Evran Sh.D.Bahadir, PhD of Mickiewicz University U. Kydyrbayeva (Poland), teacher and researcher of Arkan Ilmaz College of Alanya M. Gultekin (Turkey ), doctoral student of the University of Izmir R. Chitilov (Turkey), associate professor of the Bolashak Academy S. K. Boldysh (Kazakhstan), associate professor of Tarbiat Modarres University N. Dorri (Iran), professor of the A. Beruni Institute of Oriental Studies (Uzbekistan) S. Karimova and others.

The second day of the conference was held in an offline format. There were made a presentation and exchanged views such scientists as the teacher of the Department of Turksoy PhD S. Koshumju, Deputy Head for Scientific Innovation and International Relations of the Department of Turkology and Linguistics of the Faculty of Philology PhD K. Sultanbek, Director of the Research Institute of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Academician K.I. Satbaev” O. Tuyakbayev, Professor of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences K. Oryntayev, teacher of the Turksoy Department PhD Isakhanova M., researcher at the Museum of the History of Science of Kazakhstan Sh. Saule, teacher of the Turksoy Department doctoral student N. Kairanbayeva and others. At the end of the conference, Director of the Research Center "Written Monuments and Spiritual Heritage" Z. Shadkam thanked everyone who took part in this event and presented certificates to the speakers.

The study of medieval written monuments, which will remain in the hands of future generations, occupies an important place in any field of Russian science. We are confident that the work of the center, which is engaged in the collection and research of handwritten materials not yet studied in the depths of the country, will continue to develop with the continuation of such activities.
