ABOUT CONDUCTING EDUCATIONAL WORK ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The Sustainable Development Goals are global goals adopted to protect the globe and maintain peace. The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals will work towards the implementation of 17 goals.

Within the framework of pedagogical practice in 29.03.2024 doctoral student of the 1st year of the Department of Mechanics, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, specialty Robotics Systems Suleimenov M. K. conducted an educational lesson on the topic of one of the 17 sustainable development goals «Sustainable Cities and Settlements».

At the beginning of the educational lesson an introductory part was held, information on the current state of urbanization in the world is then presented, including:

-a graph describing the evolution of the world's urban versus rural population since 1950;

- the number of people living in slums, the proportion of the land surface occupied by the world's cities combined, etc. Lists five major challenges facing cities and how cities and human settlements can achieve safety, health, and environmental sustainability.

During the educational lesson, important issues are highlighted, including stimulating the population of cities and towns to conserve water and electricity, to sort garbage, to accelerate the world's transition to renewable energy sources with the subsequent achievement of an environmentally and energy sustainable future.

Smart cities, such as the city-state of Singapore, are shown as examples of currently implemented projects to achieve environmental sustainability.

At the end of the lesson, summarizing the results of the discussion of the above-mentioned highlighted issues, the associate professor of the Department of Mechanics and directly supervising the pedagogical practice Zhumasheva Zh. and a 1st year master student of Robotics Systems specialty expressed their opinion.

  Training highly qualified specialists who are competitive in the domestic and international labor markets, conducting research and educational work on one of the sustainable 
development goals is the university’s contribution to achieving this goal.
