THE 1ST ROUND OF THE REPUBLICAN INTELLECTUAL OLYMPIAD "THE BEST LINGUIST - 2018" WAS HELD IN KAZNU

    It is recalled that one of the main tasks of modern education is the education of a multilingual competitive specialist, capable of dynamically orienting himself in a new linguistic, political, economic and social environment. In this regard, a number of events (olympiads, contests, round tables, seminars, etc.) are held in one of the leading universities of the country - the Kazakh National University, among which the special place is the annual intellectual Olympiad «the best linguist - 2018» which conducted within the framework of the "Young Linguist" club's activity of the Department of General Linguistics and European Languages ​​of KazNU and the Center for Russian Language and Culture at the University (Director, Ph.D. Umatova JM). Members of the club are students, undergraduates, PhD students which interested in the problems of modern linguistics. The scientific advisors of the club are the teachers of the department - Doctor of Philology Zh.K. Ibraeva and Candidate of Philology M.K. Mambetova. The Olympiad is held with the purpose of revealing and developing students' creative abilities and interest in research activities, promoting knowledge of languages, and promoting the professional orientation of future specialists. 

On March 28, 2018, the first qualifying round of the Olympiad took place. This year more than 100 students from leading higher educational institutions of the country took part in the qualifying round. The contestants are competed in the knowledge of the state, Russian and English languages. Tasks in the tests assumed knowledge of both linguistic disciplines, as well as checking the wit and logic of students. As a result of the competitive selection, the right to represent their university fell to students from five universities: the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abay, the Kazakh Women's Pedagogical University, the University of International Relations and World Languages named after Abylaykhan, the University of Suleiman Demirel, the Taraz Humanitarian University and the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi. Participation in the Olympiad assumes the presume of the state language, Russian and English. Contestants were to measure their strength both in the possession of languages, and demonstrate knowledge of the theory of language, as well as logic and savvy. The main round of the intellectual Olympiad will be held on April 27, 2018.
