The head of the center "Russian language and culture" of the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi Zhanna Umatova took part in the work of the II international congress "Language policy of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States" on October 27-28, 2021, organized by the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States ( Rossotrudnichestvo), State Russian Language Institute named after A.S. Pushkin, Kazakhstan Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, Russian House in Almaty, Russian House in Almaty. More than 100 scientists, teachers, specialists, experts from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine took part in the work of the congress offline and online.The purpose and objectives of the congress included the analysis and translation of the most effective practices for harmonizing the language situation in a multilingual, multicultural and multi-confessional state, organizing a broad expert discussion of multilingualism problems with the participation of representatives of scientific, educational and public organizations; discussion and assessment of the effectiveness of existing practices, the best approaches to harmonizing the language situation in a multilingual state; identification of new directions for the development and improvement of the conditions for interaction in one territory of state, official, native languages, languages ​​of interfaith communication; establishment of business partnerships between scientific, educational and public organizations implementing projects in the field of language and intercultural communication.The participants listened to speeches and reports of the Consul General of the Russian Federation in the city of Almaty Evgeny Bobrov, professor of the State Art Institute named after V.I. Pushkin Vladimir Karasik, professor of the Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov to Valentina Maslova, Chairman of the Moldavian Society of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature Tatiana Mlechko, President of the Kazakh Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature Eleonora Suleimenova, Vice President of the Russian Society of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature Mikhail Osadchy and many others. During the discussions, an exchange of best practices on creating conditions for the interaction of state, official, native languages ​​of interethnic communication took place. One of the main events was a discussion about the place of the Russian-language media in the formation of a single information space in the CIS countries.
