A meeting of the State Commission on the preparation and holding of the 1150th Anniversary of the great thinker of the East Abu Nasr Al-Farabi was held in Nur-Sultan, under the chairmanship of Secretary of State Marat Tazhin.

Opening the meeting, the Secretary of State noted that the name of Abu Nasr Al-Farabi, whose legacy is the property of both world civilization and our country, is the first to be named in Elbasy’s programme article «The Seven Faces of the Great Steppe».

As it became known, many events will be held as part of the anniversary, and Minister of Education and Science Askhat Aymagambetov, Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Galym Mutanov, First Deputy of Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdy, Minister of Information and Public Development Dauren Abaev have provided a detailed presentations on it.

Thus, the leading University of the country Al-Farabi KazNU, which is implementing a joint project with the UN Alliance of Civilizations «Formation of Citizens of a Virtuous Society. The Mission of Modern Universities», plans to create an International Center for farabiologists on the basis of the University with the subsequent publication of an online magazine.

In his speech, Rector Galym Mutanov highlighted that the global mission of modern Universities is to educate citizens of the world. Within the framework of the KazNU’s project «Formation of Citizens of a Virtuous Society», it is planned to implement a model of moral education of young people based on the integration of knowledge and spirituality.

A modern reading of the concept of Al-Farabi allows us to interpret the University’s mission in the sustainable development of society through the role of the «governor» of a virtuous city as an educator, mentor and teacher of peoples. Such mentoring can and should be implemented by modern Universities. If, along with professional competencies, the University graduates become the carriers of high humanistic values, then human civilization will become better, safer, and virtuous. In this regard, the dissemination of the works of Al-Farabi is the most relevant and important mission for all countries and peoples.

It was also announced that preparations has begun for the international symposium «Al-Farabi and World Civilization». For wide coverage of the heritage of the thinker of the East, his works will be translated and published in different languages. Special documentaries and television and radio programs will be shot. In many educational institutions of the country, international conferences and symposia, seminars and lectures, educational and cultural events with the participation of the most famous domestic and foreign scientists, public figures and experts are planned. All events will be aimed at promoting and popularizing the heritage of the great philosopher and thinker Abu Nasr al-Farabi.
