Climate Change in Kazakhstan: Vulnerability and Resilience

Al-Farabi KazNU hosted a Round Table entitled «Climate Change in Kazakhstan: Vulnerability and Resilience». The event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Philippe Martiné, and experts in the climate change from the RSE «Kazhydromet», LLP «Institute of Geography», U.M. Sultangazin Institute for Space Research, as well as scientists of the Meteorology and Hydrology Department of the Faculty of Geography.

The Rector of the University, Academician Galym Mutanov, highlighted the relevance of the Round Table and expressed his deep appreciation to the French Republic for its active support of international efforts to prevent a catastrophic rise in temperature in the Earth’s atmosphere.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Philippe Martine, during his report also spoke about the importance of the topic under discussion, as well as the possibilities of student exchange within the framework of academic mobility in the area climate change.

During the Round Table, experts discussed current trends in climate change in Kazakhstan, risk factors and measures to increase resistance to it.

According to the results of the Round Table, it has been recommended to improve the quality of researcher’s works, to develop international cooperation, exchange of ideas, participation in joint research projects, and the creation of the Kazakhstan-France Scientific and Technical Center on the basis of KazNU.
