An international seminar on the theme “Expanding the Horizon and Strengthening the Potential of Research on Foreign Korean Studies” was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

18 research teams from 15 countries attended the seminar.

Studies on Korean studies are conducted not only in the field of Korean, but also in various fields, such as history, literature, culture, etc. The Korean government supports research projects of foreign Korean research teams from different countries to develop and strengthen the foundations of Korean studies outside of Korea.

The director of the Academy of Korean Studies An Byung Ook noted that the research team exchanged the results of research on foreign Korean studies and discussed its future for this event.“Thanks to the merits of Korean studies researchers all over the world, today the Korean wave is spreading all over the world. But I think that we need a specific and new approach to Korean studies and more in-depth research for its further development. Now we need to move to a new stage, ”said An Byung Ook.

“I consider it very significant that this international seminar is held in Kazakhstan, which is in a close and friendly position with Korea. I think that this event makes a great contribution to the development of Korean studies in Kazakhstan. Currently, about 700 students are studying Korean in all departments of Korean studies in Kazakhstan. At the Korean Education Center at the Embassy in Almaty, every year about 2,600 people register for the Korean language course, and in Korea, about 1,000 students from Kazakhstan study at different universities, ”said the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Almaty, Jeon Seung Min.This international seminar has become a kind of platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between Korean scholars and experts in foreign Korean studies.
