The 18 World Korean Forum "Peaceful coexistence, exchange and cooperation in a world multi-ethnic and multicultural era" will be held in Al-Farabi Scientific Library of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on August 2-3, 2017. The Forum is organized by the Global Korean Foundation in collaboration with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with the support of the Association of Koreans of Kazakhstan and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Almaty.
The international summer school "Kazakhstan and Central Asia on the Silk Road: green technologies", organized by KazNU as a Global Hub of the UN Academic Impact (UNAI) on sustainable development, has been opened on the basis of Al-Farabi KazNU jointly with the Alliance of universities of the New Silk Road in the midst of the international exhibition EXPO-2017. Starting in June of this year at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the summer school continued its work in leading universities of Kazakhstan.
International Summer Linguistic School “The Russian Language and Culture: Traditions, Innovations and Prospects” was held from June 26 to July 1, 2017 on the basis of “The Russian Language and Culture” Center (headed by Candidate of Philological Sciences Mambetova M.K.) and the Department of General Linguistics and European Languages (Head of Chair – Doctor of Philological Sciences Madiyeva G.B.) of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, supported by the Fund “Russian World” (agreement No.1814P/05-17 of June 5, 2017, Moscow, Russia) and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Almaty, Kazakhstan). Participants were university professors, schoolteachers, students, undergraduates, doctoral students, and learners (Kazakhstan, China, USA, Canada, and Turkey).
In the period from June 26 to June 30, 2017, the archives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi for the first time conducted a summer school for young archivists of the CIS countries.
There was a meeting first Vice-rector of al-Farabi KazNU Burkitbayev M. M. with a Swiss delegation headed by the Ambassador of Switzerland, the Director of the Department of international cooperation of State Secretariat for education, research and innovation (Mr. Mauro Moruzzi) and Manager of the Swiss pavilion of Astana Expo 2017 (Mr. Philip Rusle).
Burkitbaev M. M. noted that the al-Farabi Kazakh National University is active in establishing cooperation in the sphere of science and education with universities in Switzerland. He also noted that al-Farabi KazNU moved from the classical educational model of the University to the model of a research University.
The Ambassador of Switzerland Mauro Moruzzi acquainted with the history of Al-Farabi KazNU, the achievements of university students in the scientific and sports fields. He also highly appreciated the work of KazNU in the research and innovation sphere, as the oldest university in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The results of the negotiations:
1. The parties got acquainted with the specifics of higher education and financing of education in Switzerland.
2. For the decision on the possibility of further international cooperation, the authorized representatives of the parties will hold joint consultations and meetings, if necessary.

Global Hub UNAI on Sustainability at Al Farabi KazNU has contributed to the work of the session "Smart and Sustainable Cities of the Future" at the 10th Astana Economic Forum (AEF) which took place on June 15 and 16, 2017 in Astana city, Kazakhstan. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP, Kazakhstan) organized the session and it focused on the challenges of rapid urbanization especially in developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
