We are glad to report to you about start of the second part of the project «Open chair» also. Thanking, to project support by rector Galimkair Mutanov the project «Open chair» develops according to two programs – «The main educational process» and «Generation of leaders». Already today in TREASURY within the Study process program in the main educational process graduates of the Bolashak program on faculty of the international relations, the Higher school of economy and business, faculty of journalism and others are involved. The program «Generation of leaders» assumes, reading disciplines on a guest basis. Listeners of the project «Open chair»: Generation of leaders there are students of generation X, understanding value for career growth, not only knowledge, possession of several languages, understanding of world tendencies, but also ability to absorb and process in tens times more information, to follow development of technologies and the Internet, abilities to build career proceeding, first of all, from personal interests. Within the project «Open chair: Generation of leaders» for listeners English Discussion Club will be organized. Participation in Club the absolutely free. Each listener of the project can tighten English, learn about culture of other countries and it is simple to meet new international students.

The students’ conference “For a nuclear–free world”. Twenty Years of Closing of Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site” was held. The conference was organized by Suleimenova G.S., associate Professor and Karipbayeva G.A., senior teacher (The Chair of Diplomatic Translation). Arynov Zhanibek, Kopabayev Dauren, the students of the 4^th course, International Relations Department (the Kazakh group) were the moderators of the conference The conference was opened by the dean of the faculty of international relations,Doctor of Sciences(law) professor Shakirov K.N and Suleimenova G.S. The 1^st report was made by Karipbayeva G.A., senior teacher of the Chair of Diplomatic Translation “Polygon by the eyes of the witness”.

Dear students of 3-4 courses of a bachelor degree, 1-2 courses of a magistracy! For the First Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Defense of the RK has been demonstrated new classrooms of weapons and Army air defense equipments the, computer classes, E-learning and library, a training –shooting range of infantry troops, a thematic exhibition of the history of the Air Defense Artillery of Ground Forces.

Dear listeners of the project «Open chair» and Global Class!

The KPMG company is started interuniversity competition of business cases: «KPMG Case Competition». This competition is focused on students of older years who will be aimed in the near future at job search in the international companies. Competition will allow them to apply the knowledge, analytical skills and ability to work in team to find the best solution of a case!

The first stage is a selection round which will be led in each university. The won team will represent the university, and to compete with the best students of other universities at the final competition KPMG.

Students will have a chance to compete in the real business environment, to expand the knowledge of business, to develop skills of collaboration and skills of carrying out presentations, to show the talents and to gain experience at professionals of KPMG.

Students of older years of a bachelor degree can participate in competition 3-4 course only. To make an application on participation it is possible as a part of group, i.e. children independently form teams and submit one general application for participation (where individually fill a form of the participant). Groups should consist of 4 participants. Free possession of English is an indispensable condition for all participants. Students should show interest to business, possess strong leader qualities and experience of the solution of complex challenges.

Students send the filled demands from group to (download) on NOsserbayeva@kpmg.kz, having specified in a subject of the letter of "KPMG Case Competition". All groups will receive the notice on receipt. Registration of participants till January 15 2011г.

Teams will be selected proceeding from concrete criteria. Then selection competition will be held. Selection Round - on January 15 - on January 28, 2012 (previously). From students it is required to analyse business a case, to develop strategy of its decision and to present it before jury. The jury consisting of professionals of KPMG, will define the best team from each university which will represent the university at the final competition KPMG.

Winners of selection stages will have an opportunity to represent cвой university at final competition which will take place on February 4 (preliminary date). 6 teams will fight for the Prize and a title of the Champion of KPMG Case Competition 2012.

On December 12 on the faculty of international relations Al-Farabi Kazakh University held a meeting with Michael Snowden, General Consul of The USA in Almaty. Diplomatic club Taleyran and americanists’ Association took part as the organizer of this meeting.

In the first part of the meeting Mr. Snowden read a lecture about modern problems of international relations and particularly pointed out the problem of sustainable development. Second part of the meeting went on in discussion, students asked several questions concerning educational programs, the role of international organizations in the region of Central Asia and Mr. Snowden’s way of growth as a diplomat

Leadership lecture of Professor Wulf Lapins on “Afghanistan-Central Asia: critical review and prospects” held at faculty of International relations at the threshold of 20^th anniversary of Independence of Republic of Kazakhstan was devoted to security problems in Central Asia and the contribution of Kazakhstan to regional stability.

A mobile learning test of students taking part in pilot project was conducted at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University from November 28 to December 2 2011. One hundred students of Humanity Studies in our university has learnt the first basic course of American English, and 95 of them have been tested.

Students at different language levels say that preliminary results show their language skills improvement in pronunciation and hearing native speaker’s speech. It thanks to unlimited experience of hearing and recording their own voice several times, in addition it doesn’t require large equipment like a PC or a notebook.

Teachers emphasize students’ high motivation and positive attitudes to the project. They have noticed that students are very happy when realize their ability to recognize familiar phrases and words in English films and songs.

The pilot project is based on complementation of innovative mobile learning method of any target language. Mobile phones used for language learning have a special installed software. This method has been developed by Swedish company “So To Speak”. The representatives of this company are the author Karl Hofso and his technical assistant Fouad Jazzar have been invited for Evaluation. The foreign language chair can use the testing “inherited” program for the next time.

Official sponsor of this pilot project is “Nokia-Kazakhstan”. It has provided 100 mobile phones for students and 10 – for teachers.

We congratulate!!! 30 students and 10 teachers TREASURY will hold professional practice in headquarters of the United Nations, in various agencies of the United Nations.

It is necessary to add that such possibility was created after visit of the rector of university and delegation of scientists to headquarters of the United Nations in November, 2011. Besides, it is fruitful activity of scientists, for example, professors TREASURY Akmaral Arystanbekova which adequately represented many years Kazakhstan in the United Nations, and its experience allows to conduct this work at the highest level, marked out Rama Damudaran - Deputy Director, Outreach Division of Department of public information of the United Nations.

To the 20 anniversary of Independence of Republic Kazakhstan within the limits of 20 star days «Twenty tops of Independence» on December, 3rd it is declared by Day of "Youth". This day at the Kazakh national university of a name al-Farabi in the Academic council boardroom has taken place solemn ceremony of delivery of diplomas to the first listeners of the new innovative project «Open chair».

About the beginning of academic year of 475 students of the Kazakh national university of a name al-Farabi have heard to innovative disciplines of graduates of the program "Bolashak", top-managers of the companies of Council of employers Treasury. The lecturer of the project «Open chair», possessing both international theoretical, and practical knowledge imparted experience with students. All disciplines were taught exclusively in English. Innovative and interactive methods of teaching, use of methods a case-stadi, working out of projects, work in groups, skills of work with the Internet, remote courses and вебинары.

Participating in the program, students develop analytical and creative skills, skills of dialogue and presentation, skills of work in a command, study in the creative approach to realization of ideas, receive experience of a writing of scientific projects according to the international standards. Besides, the program «Open chair» gives to students possibility independently to realize innovative projects in sphere of economy, sociology, formation, preservation of the environment and information technology.

Within the limits of the project the program «Career Mentoring» («Career preceptorship»), directed on students of senior class is effectively used. The program opens direct access to skilled professionals to graduates, which can give advice and recommendations how to plan the career. Students can communicate with the instructor by e-mail, at office of the company or during carrying out of joint social actions.

Ceremony of delivery of diplomas «Open chair» - has passed on the eve of important event - the 20 anniversaries of Independence of Republic Kazakhstan, within the limits of 20 star days «Twenty tops of Independence». The president of Republic Kazakhstan Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbaev addressing to youth, time and again underlined, «that you are founders of a modern history of independent Kazakhstan. You - the generation which puts a high lath and takes earlier inaccessible tops. Yours energy, forces and tendency are necessary to Kazakhstan». Dear students and staff of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University!

Welcome to a scholarship competition organized by a European Commission in the framework of ERASMUS MUNDUS ARCADE international academic mobility project that gives students, researchers and staff from Central Asia the opportunity to study, do research, training or teaching in the most prestigious universities of Europe.

Individuals may apply for mobility of different duration depending on the length of the course or program offered by the host university. The academic offer includes exchange (1-2 months) as well as full degree programs.

The lecture will be devoted to the issues of stability and security of Central Asian and Kazakhstan within the framework of 20th anniversary of the independence of the RK.

There was held a round work table on the topic “Kazakh diplomat – Nazir Torekulov” at the Faculty of International Relations on the 30^th of November, organized by students’ organization “Diplomatic mission” and 4^th year students. Professors, teachers and students of the Department of International Relations and World Economy took part in this event, that aimed to develop young generation’s sense of patriotism.

December 1-st, 2011 in the Malachite Hall of Al Farabi KazNU a solemn meeting devoted to 15th anniversary of the Department of Tourism and 20th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held. The 4^th year’s students a Youth Club of tourism and sport development "ZhasTur" took an active part in the preparation and conduct of the event.

Welcoming remarks were made by the Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management, Prof. V.G. Salnikov, the founder of the Department of Tourism, Prof. S.R. Erdavletov and the Head of the Department, Assoc. Prof. A.M. Artemyev. The GDS Abacus International Certificates and gifts to students who have already successfully passed the exam were awarded. P.N. Spitsin, the Director of Abacus Central Asia said that cooperation with the Al Farabi KazNU on behalf of the Department of Tourism is very fruitful and successful.

November 30, 2011, Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies of Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi held an International round table "The role and place of Oriental studies in the Research University" dedicated to 20^th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
