Competition of poetic translation based on Zh. Zhabayev's poems

On April 30, 2021, Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the "TARZHIMAN" club of young translators organized a poetry translation contest "Zhuz Zhasagan Zhurekten", dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Zhambyl Zhabayev. The competition was attended by students of 1-2 courses, studying in the specialties "Translation Studies" and "Foreign Philology".

It is gratifying that young people who have chosen the profession of translator and are just beginning to pay attention to the art of translation, come to poetic education. As you know, poetic translation is one of the most difficult types of translation. The young translators were not entrusted with poetic education, but with the creation of a word translation of the original. However, until students came, they tried to translate in accordance with the original, worked a little hard and developed translation options for the verses. In the competition, translation of the poems of the Zhambyl poet "Alatau", "testament", "ZhanysAkyn", "Pushkin", etc. was made.

Each contestant shared their translation and answered the jury's questions about the original text. The jury of the competition included acting professors of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation L. Zh. Musaly, senior teachers A. Zhaparova, I. Azimbayeva. Summing up the results of the competition, the head of the organization of young translators "Tarzhimanclub" Musaly L.
